If you find yourself in Mount Austin, JB, and have a hankering for traditional flavours, look no further than Fortune Pot Wanton Noodles. This eatery truly lives up to its name by offering an authentic experience that's hard to find elsewhere. Undoubtedly stealing the spotlight here is the remarkable soup base. While the secret ingredients remain a mystery, the broth emanates a rich and savoury essence reminiscent of dried oyster or dried octopus – both staples in traditional Cantonese soups. Whatever their magic formula might be, it's undeniably marvellous, earning a perfect 5 out of 5 thumbs up in my book. When it comes to Char Siew, Fortune Pot's Mount Austin outlet doesn't hold back on choices. They present you with the option of lean or half-fat Char Siew. Let me tell you, the half-fat version bursts with succulent flavours that will set your taste buds dancing with joy. This indulgence unquestionably merits another 5/5 thumbs up. Now, let's delve into the fried pork dumplings. The delicate, golden, crispy exterior envelops a meaty interior of just the right proportion. Each bite strikes the perfect balance between crunch and tenderness, creating a delightful treat that stands on its own. And then there's the soup dumplings – a true testament to generosity. These dumplings are a marvel, generously filled with delectable goodness. Now, onto the noodles – claiming to serve some of the finest noodles in this region is a bold statement, but Fortune Pot's Mount Austin outlet unquestionably delivers. These noodles outshine their competitors in JB and even across the border in SG. This branch is where you'll unearth the noodle nirvana you've been in search of. Be it traditional wanton noodle or the modern fusion Tom Yam noodle, amount others. You name it, they serve it :) It's worth noting that, surprisingly, from my vantage point at my seat, the chefs appeared to be foreigners. This serves as a testament to their mastery of the craft. In summary, my bowl of traditional wanton noodle at this outlet was a culinary gem in Mount Austin. The marvellous soup base, exceptional Char Siew choices, expertly crafted dumplings, and unparalleled noodles all contributed to a dining experience deserving of a resounding 5 out of 5 thumbs up. Don't miss the chance to savour these multi-flavour noodles, expertly prepared with a touch of expertise. I am rating it 4 out of 5 stars because of their pricing of a bowl of noodle is somewhat steeper than I expected given the location where the business is...
Read moreVisited this place on a weekend afternoon and was quite surprised that the place was not crowded. Saw this place on IG reels people were recommending the noodles so decided to visit and give it a try. Was told we could sit anywhere since the place wasn't crowded. We initially sat by the kitchen and the wall next to it was quite hot and so we shifted to another table. Quite an interesting place where you can see an open concept kitchen and the people are preparing the food ordered. The menu was rather extensive, quite thick and took some time to flip through and decide on what to eat. There were rice dishes too bit since it looks like it's a noodle place we decided to stick to what it's best for. The staff were pretty helpful also to answer some questions as we were confused about how to go about ordering the noodles, especially the noodles which only offered basic ingredients and had to order a combo to get more different ingredients added to the noodles. Ended up ordering a black noodles and a pork katsu wanton noodles, 2 drinks and char siew and wanton soup. Wanted to order the wantons in spicy sauce but the staff told us not to if we really cannot stand spices. The char siew was served first and first look was a bit disappointed by the look of it. The presentation didn't look good and by the look of it, the meat looked a bit dry. It was average and didn't taste as bad as it looks but we could understand for the price. The prawn wanton soup was okay, there was like a full prawn in every wanton, which we would usually call it a dumpling cause a wanton is just a small one without the prawn. The pork inside was tasteless but the prawn was sweet so there was at least some taste in the wanton. Skin broke too easily while getting it out from the soup. The black noodles I thought it tasted pretty decent and I quite enjoyed it. On the other hand the pork katsu one looked very plain without any sauce and the pork katsu was lukewarm and the meat was kinda tough. The 2 drinks which we ordered were the kopi and the milo were average and too much ice became quite dilute halfway. Very average meal didn't find it fantastic nor the food was bad. Pork katsu noodles were quite expensive though doubled the price of the original noodles. A normal meal with average to slight above...
Read moreOrdered the jb special and dumpling soup. Extremely average. Super duper slow service though. there was at least 5-6 workers. And only 4 customers including me. Took about 10-15mins to serve my wanton mee and dumpling soup. The char siew was so average. Like I couldve made it myself. It wasn't dry hence I didn't say it's bad. But it tasted so dead and empty (like the vibe of the shop) The noodles texture was done right. But it still has a bit of the alkaline taste. Has some lard in it. This jb special sauce tasted like some random sauce put together. All I tasted was a bit spicy and something else. Nothing making me go wow, I should have another bite. It felt very meh... The dumplings was the only saving grace. It tasted nice. But that's about it. This shop is definitely not 4.9 stars. It's 3 stars at best. When I read the other reviews, I didn't find this shop a specialty wanton mee shop, it was very mehhh... I would not recommend. Oh total price was about 35RM. Will...
