Tried Sushizanmai at JBCC Komtar and left with more questions than satisfaction.

First of all, the mineral water was “out of stock”—a bold move in a country where humidity could cook rice. Only got water after asking, and even then, just one cup for two people. Sharing is caring, I guess?

Spotted a table across with a jug, so I asked for the same and—plot twist—I got ocha! Wasn’t on the menu, but hey, a surprise sugar-free drink! 🍵 Guess I hit the “drink roulette” jackpot.

Then came my Oyakodon (large), which looked like it had just escaped the regular-size witness protection program. The chicken katsu? Soggy enough to star in a sad anime. Egg? Fully cooked, which is great if you’re into disappointment. And the rice—oh the rice—tasted like it had dreams of bonito but was left dry and confused, like it got ghosted mid-marination.

Overall, the whole meal felt like it was pre-cooked in bulk, forgotten in a corner, and then microwave-blasted back to life when I ordered. Not exactly the culinary romance I was hoping for.

Come here if you like mystery drinks, surprise portion sizes, and a masterclass in how not...

I really hate to leave bad reviews but the experience was so bad I felt I had too. Our meal took 50 minutes to be served to us..... 50 minutes, we watched people around us get their food but also in a drib drab manner. Kitchen staff were clearly lagging, the restaurant wasn’t even full. We tried to cancel our order after waiting such a long time but the waiter assured us the food would be coming soon. Then the food arrived.....this was such a sad moment, it was some of the worst sushi I have ever had in my life. The salmon wasn’t fresh and felt soggy, the fried oyster was raw, the scallops looked old- it was horrendous. The only reason this review is getting 1 star is because the waiting staff tried their best to manage the situation (and also because I can’t give 0 stars). The kitchen staff need to raise their cooking standards and pick up the pace, it’s not okay to expect customers to wait almost an hour before serving up subpar...

This Sushi restaurant stands out among its peers in JB, M'sia as they offer,

3.5-Star: Shashimi: More variety and (slightly) better quality Shashimi, instead of the usual low to low-mid qualities

4-Stars: Sushi, Soba, Udon & etc: Every restaurant has its speciality and this one defintely great if you wants a more formal, atas feel

5-Star: Presentation when serving out dishes and the relax Japanese ambience which makes it a great setting for group gathering, business meals, couple dates or even rewarding oneself after a day hard work

5-Star: Service: All the staffs are presentable, attentive and willing to goes the extra mile for their guests, even infming U of the estimated arrival of yr food when they know the preparation is long. I would like to compliment a particular staff, Mr Justin who serve me on 12-Apr in making my meal at your restaurant a great pleasure. Be appreciate of them and you will find it...

We tried a variety of dishes at this place, and overall, the food was decent but not particularly outstanding. The chawanmushi was smooth and silky, served piping hot with a prawn inside. While it had a nice texture, the flavor didn’t stand out compared to other places. The sushi selection was acceptable, but lacking that wow factor. One of the highlights was the salmon head, which was delicious. The skin was slightly burnt, but the meat inside remained tender and flavorful. The cold tofu was a pleasant surprise, very affordable yet satisfying. The udon had a nice chewiness to it, and the cha soba was enjoyable as well. Overall, it’s a decent spot for a casual meal, especially if you're looking for a variety of Japanese dishes at reasonable prices. However, do note they do have indeed a slow serving time, we were the first customer but it took 20 mins for the first dish to be served.

We came here for lunch because we walked past it and the menu sort of attracted us. Plenty of options in the menu and prices were reasonable. We ordered the sashimi plate, garlic fried rice, chawanmushi and a couple of sushi and tempura stuff. The chawanmushi was quite salty, and it was strangely served 2 or 3 dishes in. I usually expect chawanmushi to be served first. The garlic fried rice was really just average. Serving size was good, but taste wise it wasn't great, and it felt rather dry. The sashimi plate was alright. Couldn't really taste the freshness but at least it was tasty. I overheard another table complaining about the presentation of it, but while I do appreciate a nice presentation, I didn't really mind not having it. It's not easy to mess up tempura stuff, so I won't go into details there.
