The vibe leans retro, think high ceilings, wooden doorways, green mosaic tiles, and it manages to feel both lived-in and curated.
There’s an air of nostalgia here, like the café is whispering tales of another era while you sip a carefully brewed coffee. Coffee is taken seriously. The drip and hand-brewed options are fragrant, smooth, and sometimes surprising, with a slight tang on the Earl Grey ice drip or a hint of tea in the flat white, but never aggressively showy. Even the iced lattes and cappuccinos have enough depth to make the average instant-coffee addict reconsider their life choices. Cakes are a revelation: unbaked cheesecakes that melt on the tongue, almond tiramisu chiffon, lemon poppy seed pound cake. Nothing is overly sweet. Everything is served with an almost obsessive attention to texture and presentation.
The menu straddles continents: Thai basil chicken rice that hits just the right note, Taiwanese chicken rice, curry toast, even the occasional nasi lemak that impresses despite high expectations. Breakfast, brunch, and dessert all get equal love. Portions are generous but not sloppy. Some dishes, like soft shell crab nasi lemak or certain mains, veer toward the overly salty or disappointing, a reminder that perfection isn’t always persistent.
Service is generally friendly, attentive, and charmingly human. Waitstaff sometimes scramble to communicate among themselves, but the effort is genuine. There’s even a dog that patrols the café like an underpaid security guard. The place itself is pet-friendly, which adds to its warmth, or chaos, depending on your tolerance for animals.
Prices can feel steep by Klang standards, and getting a seat occasionally demands patience. The open-air concept keeps things airy, though it isn’t always perfectly cool. Yet these minor frustrations are part of the charm.
Upstairs, a small artisan shop offers books, comics, and curiosities, adding another layer of texture to the visit. Retro vibes, a diverse food palette, strong coffee, and a dose of unpredictability make Blackstone Bakery Café a spot worth hunting down. Expect to leave full, a little caffeinated, and maybe a bit smitten with...
Read moreHad avoided this place for the longest time, afraid to be disappointed after it was taken over from Seraph Awaken. But it turns out to be significantly better than what I had expected.
Coffee wise, it's actually a pretty decent standard (for filter coffee) and for the select few beans that they have, it isn't bad at all. Serving size is also slightly larger than previously. Of course, what is different would be lesser selection of beans. You can't expect to go there and be surprised by some adventurous selection of that week. But what you would get would be the same selection week in week out but at a decent standard. In fact, I would say it could easily beat many cafe standards in KL and PJ still. In my latest visit, it seems that they are putting different beans under rotational and some of their natural process beans are very good.
Cake was pretty good too. Tried out the Matcha burnt cheesecake. Might return for it in fact. The Earl Grey cake felt a little too creamy while the croissants need improvement as they were a little tough and wasn't quite flaky?
The place has mostly been kept the same as it had been previously. With just some minor differences in choice of furnishing. Arrangement of furniture is slightly different too. Hope that over time, it does not dilute that original feel of Seraph Awaken. The feeling of old shophouses in Malaysia with aged furnitures.
Will be back to...
Read moreThis little cafe is tucked away at a side strew t near to the Klang main railway station amongst lots of Indian’s shop. We heard the coffee is good there so we decided to take a trip down to Klang. The ceiling is very high so make the place feels spacious. The cafe deco is a bit of retro with the 60s style tiles on the wall. The furnitures are pretty old too. Plenty of plants lying around the cafe made it cosy. A stray dog was lying on the floor of the cafe waiting for the patrons to throw him some food. As we were there after a heavy lunch, we decided to skip the cakes. We ordered the pine house which blended pineapple and coconut juice with Lime and a tint of salt which was refreshing for a warm sunny days. My friend’s cold pressed coffee was very strong. Another one ordered the coconut cloud which turned out pretty good too! I must say the menu is pretty extensive with lots of choices ranging from Chinese noodles, western foods and varieties of cakes and bread. I wouldn’t mind coming back to eat brunch some days. Good place to sit here sipping a cold drink to watch...
