Went in with a cup of starbucks (as a review stated that their coffee was no good), the waitress approached me at the door to say that they dont allow outside food/drinks. Asked them whether its okay if I make sure no other customers will see it, she nodded her head and lead me in and offered to throw my drink away after i finished it, giving a very kind impression.
Without being informed in advanced, an additional RM3 was charged to our bill. Upon asking with surprise, she claimed that they charge us for bringing outside food/drinks into the cafe. In my very humble opinion, every customer have the consent to know the reason behind every charges, even if it is RM0.01. When asked why this wasnt informed when i stepped my foot into the cafe, she said the RM3 was 6% from our bill for being there from 11-6pm, where they have to pay for the lights and the electricity. To be fair, cafe food nowadays are pricey, to which for sure that they considered their electricity bills and their utilites while determining the price for the food they serve (my friend and i spent RM50+, excluding the RM3 surcharge). Then later she said that indeed the RM3 was because outside food was brought into the cafe, and it was a disrepect for the cafe for bringing outside food. Plus, there is also a minimum spend for every customer. (What confused me is that, if it was really because of the starbucks, why would she mention about the electricity?)
If the cafe emphasizes on respect, she ought to have informed that there is this surcharge to their customers, or even asked to finish the drink before entering the cafe. I belive that a general respect to all customers is that all charges are to be stated somewhere in the cafe, or in the menu. Note that at this point, the amount of minimum spend was not mentioned.
With more than 5 hours in the cafe, they definitely have the chance to inform me of the ‘service charge - no outside food/drink’, but no one mentioned anything although there was 3 workers there. Plus, the shop was not really packed and busy. I feel cheated and scammed. The price charged today was RM3, and what if the price charged the next time was RM50?
A friendly reminder to all future customers, please make sure to spend a lot of money at this shop, or clarify with them beforehand, as who knows what is their minimum spend, and their surcharge for not...
Read moreA little cubby hole of a cafe tucked on the first floor along the busy commercial street of Taman Desa commercial area may be easily missed. But its that very elusiveness and hidden out of the way aspect that makes this place a little oasis among the bustling double parked cars and hectic urban going on around the area.
Mainly a cafe serving select and home brewed coffees, teas and beverages, they have a nice selection of beans to customise to your coffee taste buds, a nice selection is the iced coffee with Gula Melaka with its rich taste for me.
For the main dish they have only a few selections but are still nice and adequate as accompaniment to the drinks. The porky dry ramen is a nice dish, which i sampled and for the end had their signature desert, the Panna Cotta with macha sauce, firm, a slight delectable bitterness and sweet at the same time, nicely ending the meal.
A recommended place to just sit during early mornings, late afternoons and weekends when you just want to relax out of the crowd and enjoy a nice brew. The staff are friendly and accommodating making the place cosy and inviting.

Read moreIt’s been a while since my last visit to Await Café, and coming back to its newly renovated space was truly nostalgic. This café holds a special place in my heart—it was one of the first cafés that introduced me to the world of coffee, even before I started my own café journey.
The coffee remains as impressive as ever, and it’s one of the few places where you can still enjoy a syphon brew. The setup is cozy and comfortable, not flashy or trendy, but instead filled with passion and warmth. I’ve had so many great moments here—amazing coffee, delicious cakes, and lots of laughter shared with friends.
Hearing that Await Café will be closing soon is truly bittersweet. Thank you for all the wonderful experiences, the dedication to great coffee, and the memories created here. Wishing the team all the best in their next chapter—I hope to see your passion for coffee continue in a...
