Been back here a few times, the sashimi is always fresh and excellent. Yakitori also a surprising crowd pleaser. Have had lunch sets, omakase and also ala carte dinners here. Seasonal specials are a good highlight you should try.
The chefs are always very friendly and on the ball, like Shu-san before he went to open up Nobunaga in the same building. Very sharp and fast with serving food.
In contrast, I find that most of the front of house can be forgetful — accompanying side orders like rice sets, pickles, or other don dishes are sometimes forgotten. It will help if you can identify a senior person that can help you with your orders, and check in with the other waiters for the status of your food. It can be difficult for you to flag down waiters at the counter, so if they're busy you could probably highlight something you need to the owner/chef if he's not busy preparing — he'll always resolve it for you.
I've always had good experiences but I was disappointed with the latest 50% off sashimi promotion round. The previous time I was here, the sashimi set was also included in the promotion (attached a picture of my receipt from September). This changed recently and was not clarified to me before I ordered with a new waitress so at the time I received the (RM260+!) bill, it gave me a huge shock since it was not discounted.
BTW, informing the individual pieces are available for discount is not the same as informing that the sets are no longer available for the promo — I find it quite unfair to me as someone who has consistently returned to support the establishment. Please be clearer at the time of ordering for other customers to avoid this in future.
For other potential customers reading this, it will help for you to clarify any promo in advance, maybe with multiple waitstaff, even if you have ordered with the same promo before. Better...
Read moreA friend and I came here for lunch on a weekday, and it was not very busy. It was a little bit hard to find this restaurant as it is upstairs. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed our experience.
We each ordered a lunch omakase set that comes with a cold appetiser, three kinds of sashimi, unagi kabayaki and miso saba (and rice), and a dessert. To supplement we also ordered the 8 kinds of nigiri and some extra salmon. The fish was very good quality, we got to watch the chef prepare all sushi and sashimi! The cold vegetable appetisers were very good, and I liked the range of the colours and textures that were included in the 3 dishes of the appetiser course. Unagi is one of my favourites, so I always enjoy it simply with rice, and the miso saba was absolutely delicious and extremely tender. The dessert was a sorbet of your choice - I chose yuzu - with cornflakes.
Overall, the food was very good at Uo-sho, and the lunch special omakase that we chose was around 98rm pp, which is not bad for the whole meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice, my friend and I really enjoyed the cute little vegetable chopstick holders. Would...
Read moreThe minister keeps a list of Japanese restaurants in Klang Valley that she wants to visit. Once in a while when both of us are free, we would visit one, one at a time. Uo Sho is located in a rather secluded location in Plaza Damas and if you're not familiar with the layout, it might take a while.
Since it was lunch time, it's easier to secure a spot at the counter and watch the chef preparing our order.
◾Ryokan Set RM48 netted me Ohitashi, Salad, Yamatake, Natto, Onsen Egg, Grilled Saba, Rice, Miso Soup, Pickle and Ice Cream. ◾5 kinds of Grilled Sushi RM88 - Engawa was the highlight followed closely by fatty tuna and sea eel. Each bite filled with smokiness and unaminess. ◾7 Kind of Sashimi RM138 - when I thought that I could spend less than 200 for the meal, she craved for sashimi 😅 what to do? Happy wife happy life... for the price we got 14 pieces of fresh seafood which worked to about RM10 per piece, and I was happy to see chutoro cut included.
Everything is fresh...
