Definitely an insta-worthy joint with it's gorgeously high ceilings , eye-catching minimalist deco and breath-taking entrance.
An interesting menu that had me all excited and wanting to order everything on it!
Food though - at 4* prices , i definitely expected more than the mamak service we received
An honest review of the food (based om the limited menu offering as it was after 2pm) :
Tomato Pesto Pasta - looked quite like a pesto mess with nothing in it except for cream , tomato puree and perhaps some cheese. oversalted. Serves one just enough to hit below the "full" line - leaving space for a drink and dessert
Pineapple keffir lime fizz - sounded like a promising thirst quencher on that hot hot day. Pineapply was definitely freshly juiced as indicated by the foam , but the whole drink really fell flat. There was supposed to be soda in the drink but it seemed to be watered down there were barely any bubbles.
Mango puff pastry - clearly the winner in our order for that day. A light mango creammouse cross with a non-overpowering crust
Service was not what i would have expected from the looks of the . We were ignored at the door by the lady manning the reception. Stood there like fools in the heat as the the door constantly opened and closed at us (no one in line ahead of us). When we finally had the attention of the lady , she unceremoniusly "dumped" us as we requested for an outdoor sitting (all empty tables probably due to the heat) and disappeared into the restaurant. We finally had an indian gentleman come to the entrance and usher us in. At this point we realised the wait at Botanica may have been a better option as at least we had been welcomed with a smile and acknowledgement of our presence.
Water is not served - as is quite the fashion these days to buy a bottle with a house label.
Drinks were served without coasters and left a dripping mess / puddles on the table due to condensation.
The wait staff were not equipped to advice which desserts were egg-free or vegetarian friendly.
Despite the place being quieter at that point , the only time we could catch the attention of the waiters was when food was served.
While i acknowledge it was a weekend and the wait staff may have had a busy brunch - there should be some consideration for support staff in busy periods.
Definitely worth an investment to have staff trained in a manner that eliviates the restaurant.
P.s : i do sound like a misfit amidst all the...
Read moreWe managed to book 2 weeks in advance for a table reservation at Ginger Bamboo Hills for dinner with 7 adults and 1 kid. The restaurant only offered 2 slots, 6 pm or 8 pm. We decided to take the 6 pm slot on a Saturday evening and only for max. 2 hours dinner. There were many people queuing already before 6 pm and if you a walk-in customer, you will only get a table outside/ hot. So, we luckily had reservations and can go inside with cool Air-conditioner The service by staffs were ok, fast and polite, even at full packed restaurant on a Saturday night. The food portion of some dishes were medium to small size considering the high price e.g., Roast Spring Chicken and gravy only RM60, small bowl (2-3 pax) of Burnt Butter Ulam RM 27. In general. it was sufficient/not for sharing and good of taste with rich flavourful Indian spices! On Food wise, The Bitter gourd chips and Chicken 65 were ok, Burnt Butter Ulam is colourful and refreshing with lots of edible flowers. The Chantarelle Mushroom and the Amma’s Crab Rasam soups were excellent and the fresh pastas were all well cooked and delicious too except the Spaghettini Creamy Tomato Pesto was not to our kid liking as it was too salty! The Roasted Spring chicken meat was ok / nothing special, but rather dry and look not what supposed to be / pale colour chicken instead of nice golden brown one! A special note for: The Maharaja Udang Galah with Linguine was tasteful but the prawn meat was very little and too soft/crumbling! I am not sure about the freshness of the big Udang Galah? Besides, it was much better to serve the Maharaja with a bigger plate as it is quite difficult to eat in a small plate and causing messy presentation of the Maharaja for RM 99! see pictures! One of the downsides for Ginger Restaurant place is that the music is too loud and had difficulty to do normal conversation in the restaurant specially when the restaurant was fully packed on a Saturday night! Food Price wise is at very high-end side and unbalance considering the size/portion of the dishes e.g., Roasted Spring Chicken and The Maharaja!. At the end, after spending RM 800++ for the evening, will not consider returning to try other dishes...
Read moreThis restaurant is an excellent choice for those seeking a peaceful atmosphere to celebrate or spend quality time bonding with family and friends. The interior design is tastefully done, with the vibrant lighting from the chandelier adding a warm and inviting touch to the ambiance.
The staff are exceptionally accommodating, ensuring that guests enjoy a refined dining experience. They are not only attentive and professional but also friendly and engaging, which contributes to the overall pleasant atmosphere. I also appreciate the efficiency of the service. Dishes are prepared and served promptly.
Credit is due not only to the front-of-house team but also to the back-of-house staff. The presentation of the dishes is visually impressive, and the sauces, pita, and fruit juices are especially flavorful.
However, I was slightly disappointed with the menu offerings. Ideally, all items should be available at all times. For instance, we wanted to order a dish from the breakfast or lunch selection, but it was not being served at that time. It would also be beneficial to expand the menu to accommodate a wider range of preferences. Not all guests enjoy spicy food, and some may prefer lighter meals. Offering more variety would enhance the overall dining experience.
Additionally, we were unaware that cakes and pastries were available for dessert, as they were placed in a corner near the cashier and not immediately visible. It would be helpful to showcase dessert options more prominently.
Moreover, it would be a thoughtful gesture for the restaurant to offer a complimentary item such as bread or light snacks for gatherings of more than 10 people, especially while waiting for other guests to arrive, browsing the menu, or waiting for orders to be served. This would help create a more engaging and lively environment.
Despite these minor issues, our overall experience was...
