Came here for dinner and 10am - 12pm free flow dimsum and I would say both experiences are quite different.
1️⃣ First visit was on a weekend night, with friends. We ordered 4 dishes with rice and tea: Smoked duck with nyonya acar & peanut sauce - didn’t really like it, the acar is not sour enough to my liking
Mala chicken (cold) - we love this! 🫵🏻❤️
Sweet & Sour chicken - we were a little skeptical about this because it’s such a common dish, but turned out it’s the GOAT 😮💨🙌
Australian Brisket Beef Black Pepper - quite nice
Tofu with shredded scallops and abalone sauce - quite nice
The servers and working team were very attentive and friendly, checking in between dishes and gave recommendations while we were ordering.
2️⃣ My second visit was just myself to try my luck walking in for the Dimsum free flow promo.
✨Recommend Jade Scallop Dumpling, Avocado cream layered Malay sponge cake, Kataifa Crispy Roll with Avocado Custard.
Braised beef cheong fun was abit too bland to my liking, although the texture is good.
The services wasn’t as great as compare to my first visit. I felt that the team is quite new and inexperienced, but the seniors were trying their best to guide them. Furthermore, with the huge crowd they were facing, it seemed abit overwhelming to the team to be fully attentive to every single customer.
🫡 Disclaimer: Before I walked in, I was already aware with the overwhelming crowd and interest to this promo, scrolled through all reviews on Google & Facebook.
Hence I walked in prepared with the right expectation and more patient to the team.
The staff stationed at the bar was a littleeeeeee bit slow, but he’s quite thoughtful! I requested for a refill and he even helped to refill my tea cup when he came back from refilling water into my teapot.
Nevertheless, I got abit disappointed when one of the staffs approached me at 1122 to inform me that the order is closed. As it wasn’t mentioned when I first arrived, maybe a last check-in and reminder shall be done around 11 to manage customers’ expectations better.
🥢🧡Other than services, I’m absolutely loving the creativity in their dishes. The ambience is great and suitable for any family gatherings, classy yet at the affordable range.
✍️If you’re dropping by, come prepared with an understanding mindset and be patient.
Looking forward for my next visit, hoping to see improvement in the new staffs as they...
Read moreThe Qing at Bamboo Hills is having a limited time dim sum buffet promo, so my friends and I decided to come here for brunch. At first, we wanted to go for a weekend session, but all the weekend sessions have already been fully booked, so we went for a Friday session instead. They're only available from 10am to 12pm.
Right off the bat, we're informed that there are four items on the menu that are premium items limited to just two per table. That's a bit odd, but ok. At least we're able to order the rest of the dishes as much as we want, right? But there were also several dishes that were out of stock; they were finished the day before, and they didn't make more to restock these items that have sold out. Well, this affected only 5 dishes out of the many dishes we could order, but it's not such a nice vibe to give your guests.
Anyway, the five of us had ordered a large variety of dim sum dishes, and they're all good. I'm happy to say that there was not a single dish that was bad, although one of us lamented that the Japanese abalone porridge was a bit bland—but in my opinion, that's actually good, because it balances out all the strong flavours of the dim sum. Speaking of flavours, two of my favourite dim sum among them included black truffle flavours, and it's such an amazing aroma that I never imagined could pair well with dim sum. The dumplings were also quite remarkable as they were among the most packed dumplings I've ever eaten.
That said, I've got just one complaint against The Qing: I like that they choose to serve the dim sum at cooler temperatures that are not cold so that we can enjoy them immediately, but those of us used to dim sum served piping hot straight out of the steamer would prefer them at slightly higher temperatures.
Overall, the dim sum is good for the price, the flavours are not overpowering, and 2 hours is just nice. I'd give it a 7/10 because the temperature is almost there, and the fact that several items were out of stock right at the start of the day left a bad taste...
Read morevisited The Qing for dim sum in September 2024 during a weekend brunch. initially tried to make a reservation online, but there were no available slots. After calling the restaurant, they were able to book a table manually. Surprisingly, despite expecting a full house, the restaurant had plenty of empty tables during my visit. I booked for 11:30 am and left around 1 pm.
The restaurant no longer offers buffet dim sum; it’s now à la carte. Some dishes worth noting:
Sea prawn har gao with black caviar: The prawns were fresh, and the skin was not too thick, just right & worth trying. It’s delicious. Jade scallop dumpling topped with Tobiko: It was decent, not bad. Golden salted egg cream bun with charcoal bun: it’s tasty & enjoyable Signature red goji skin prawn cheong fun: Quite unique, with a goji flavor cheong fun wrapping with fresh prawns and cakoi. It’s different from the usual cheong fun and worth trying.
Overall for the dim sum, the freshness of the prawns stood out. However, one of their signature - the roasted duck was disappointing. ordered half a portion for RM98, and it was relatively small. The taste was not impressive—dry, bland, and lacking flavor. Some parts of the skin were slightly crispy, but overall, it didn’t stand out; better options can be found at specialized roast duck shops.
Tried the peach gum dessert as well, it was decent but nothing extraordinary.
The ambiance was cozy and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive. Prices are slightly on the higher side, and I noticed many customers ordering the fried rice, which seems to be a...
