Tl;dr: Food and service top-notch and worth the money, but I would probably not come back until the mosquito infestation situation is fixed.

Full marks for food and customer service which was on point despite how bustling and crowded the place was. Other restaurants in the Bamboo Hills area have an average waiting time of 40 mins even for the first appetiser but not Pizza Duo / Tap Room, which got the garlic prawns to us in

This is so far the worst restaurant i ever visit. This fact happened about 2 weeks ago. I went to pizza Duo Ampang, a new brand Italian restaurant. I made a book in advance for 4 persons for dinner. As I made a reservation early, I expected that my table was ready. Once I arrived, a waiter or supervisor, not sure his name was Rhaid, he approached me and ask if I had a reservation. I told him yes. He checked and rudely answer that he don’t have my name under the reservation paper and I should wait long time for my table cause it was full otherwise I must leave and come back another day. What ? Another day ? Are you kidding me ? He answered me telling that he probably made a time mistake during the reservation call and he cannot help me. My guests were shocked about his rude attitude. After that he start to speak in another language with another guy but clearly he was speak badly about us. I was very disappointed a frustrated about his behaviour. We decided to wait and after 45 minutes another guy maybe a manager finally find a table for us. We ordered the Italian hummus (was sour and like expired), the meatballs (was decent), cacio e pepe spagheti (taste bad like glued). The pizza Margharita was quiete good. The ambiance looks cleaned but the worst part have to come. I went to the ladies toilet and find a chubby kitchen staff there, not local, maybe Bangladeshi or Nepali, wearing his apron and just come out from toilet without washing his hands. I told him that a kitchen staff should wash his hands after going to the bathroom. He was shying and I ask his name was Ahbib. After that he wash his hands. I was very disappointed to see a person not following just a simple standard cleaning procedure that a restaurant must impose to his staff. At the end of the dinner, the bill was not too expensive but the service and food was quiete bad. On the way out, the manager come and tell us to leave a review, without even ask if everything was ok. I will never...

Just got the time to write a review now, but I first went there on 3 May after a friend’s recommendation. As a Thai, I was pleasantly surprised to see Krapow on the menu—it’s great to see local flavours represented! I ended up ordering the Shroomami because I love truffle, and it did not disappoint. The flavour was amazing, and the dough reminded me of the pizza I had in Napoli—very impressive!

When I visited Pizzeria Brandi in Napoli—where they claim to be the birthplace of the pizza margherita—I was told no one else could replicate their dough because they use local mineral water, local salt, and other ingredients that “can’t be copied.” Bla bla. But honestly, the dough at Pizza Duo is right up there. It’s that good.

Then on 31 May, I visited KL again and brought my Malay cousins along. We met up there, and I let my little niece choose—she went for the Supreme Being, which was also delicious.

As for the service, when my cousin tried to book a table for us via WhatsApp, the person who replied came across a bit blunt and lacked communication skills—not very tactful. I'm not sure whether that was Pizza Duo or Taproom staff.

That said, the Pizza Duo team behind the counter, specially Ali was friendly and welcoming. The first time I went alone but didn't feel lonely. It was fun watching the whole process—from spreading the dough, adding toppings, baking it in the oven, to the final touches. The oven itself is stunning—definitely Instagram-worthy!

Next time I’m in KL, I’ll be back for that...

Tl;dr: Food and service top-notch and worth the money, but I would probably not come back until the mosquito infestation situation is fixed. - Full marks for food and customer service which was on point despite how bustling and crowded the place was. Other restaurants in the Bamboo Hills area have an average waiting time of 40 mins even for the first appetiser but not Pizza Duo / Tap Room, which got the garlic prawns to us in <20 mins at peak hour. Well done. The Tap Room's gambas al ajillo (garlic prawns) was excellent — very succulent meat and the charcoal bread was perfect for dipping. A little too salty, though. From the Pizza Duo, we ordered the shroomami (truffle and mushrooms) pizza, with truly fantastic dough — extremely fluffy and the mushrooms were very flavourful. The hype is real, basically. My main feedback for areas with which I am dissatisfied would be the environment: Atmosphere was chill and casual, excellent decor, but I could not appreciate this because... goodness, the mosquitoes!!!! They were an absolute mood-ruiner. I found myself with 6 bites just 40 minutes in despite being seated a good distance away from the main entrance. I was very uncomfortable throughout the whole meal because they kept buzzing around my feet and biting my legs and arms. I didn't even want to stay for dessert or an additional drink, I just wanted to head home to apply some Mopiko after we finished our pizza. I booked a table indoors in advance to avoid a situation like this so I certainly wasn't expecting to also be eaten by insects while I was trying to eat my meal. Like I shared with the front of house, I noticed a few power points under our seats — maybe the management can set up electric repelling devices or something for your patrons. Some of the other restaurants in the area seem to have mitigated this problem. Other FYIs to people reading: Being more of a casual setting, be aware that the majority of seats are high seats so it may not be a good location if you need to bring elderly parents or relatives, it will be uncomfortable. Wait staff did graciously accommodate our request for a low table because I went with parents who would have had issues with the high chairs, otherwise I wouldn't have minded. Tables are too small to share more than 1 pizza or 2 small dishes at a time if you're a small party — the serving platter size is quite significant and we constantly had to clear plates but waiters and waitresses were helpful and responsive in this regard so this was OK.
