My wife and I were here for lunch coz of the exceptionally high reviews of this restaurant in terms of food and service. However this is not the case for our experience. I ordered the $288 omakase and my wife had a 5 variety sashimi set plus their signature grilled Hoki. Sashimi was fresh but nothing to yell about. In less than 5 mins they deserved the grilled fish but my wife had hardly begun on her sashimi. By the time, she started with the grilled fish it was no longer hot and "crispy". To make matters much worse, their supposedly signature grilled Hoke was completely over salted! To me it should have been returned back to the kitchen and request for the grilled fish to be replaced but my wife was kind enough to finish the fish. When her grilled fish was served I just finished my appetizer and given I'd ordered an omakase set my wife would have long finished her before my dishes are all served. To make matters worse, After the 3rd dish was served, they forgot about me and I'd to ring the bell to request for the next dish; between the 3rd & 4th dish it was at least 20 minutes. A staff walked in and started to clear our table not knowing the omakase was on pause! He wanted to take away the special wasabi oil and white soy sauce and we'd to tell him I was still waiting for my sushi! The waitress who took our orders came in few minutes later apologizing for the delay and that the food was being prepared. Wow... enough said, this will be our first and last time to this restaurant. I can think of other Jap restaurants that not only serves better sashimi/sushi that comes with better customer service & at a lower price. Kyokujou...not...

From the moment I stepped into this Japanese gem, I knew I was in for a treat. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between traditional elegance and modern comfort—subtle lighting, tasteful dĂ©cor, and a calming atmosphere that immediately sets the tone for a great dining experience.

The highlight of the evening was, without a doubt, the seafood. Every dish we ordered—from the sashimi platter to the sushi rolls—was incredibly fresh and expertly prepared. The quality was unmistakable, with melt-in-your-mouth textures and clean, vibrant flavors that showcased the fish’s natural taste. It’s clear the restaurant takes pride in sourcing only the best ingredients.

The service was equally impressive. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and happy to make thoughtful recommendations based on our preferences. They made us feel genuinely welcome and taken care of throughout the meal.

Whether you’re a longtime sushi lover or new to Japanese cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit. Exceptional food, warm service, and an inviting atmosphere make it a standout experience. I’ll definitely be returning—and...

Is my first time visit kyokujou Japanese cuisine, recommended from my friends. Nice place and is a authentic restaurant. I can feel the environment and atmosphere is like in japan. I order a platter of sashimi with 7 kinds of variety, is perfect for 3 of us to share. Live tiger cooked in teppanyaki style and use the prawn head paste to cooked it back to the prawn, that is awesome. Tasts fantastic. Uni chawan mushi was good enough for me, but my friend like grilled hamachi head with sea salt. Don't forget cold soba, I feel is really difference from others japaneae restaurant. Chef Johnny like to cook and do everything by himself. Mean not buying from supplier and just mix with water. This is the place, I'm looking for and is value for money. Last quality of sashimi and ingredients is very important, will recommend to all my friends. Thank you...

Called my phone to reserve for 3. Given private room with traditional seating at low table, no extra charge. Wait staff pleasant and friendly but not knowledgable of menu items. Ordered salmon carpaccio starter which turned out to be smoked salmon strips when it should be raw, rather disappointing, plus 2 lunch sets and one nabe udon a la carte. Sashimi set had best value for money (RM78) although missing nice pickles (got the sweet brown thing instead). Special set (RM88) was not good value. Maki had cheap fillings (surimi, lots of mayo), salmon and chicken side dishes were not so fresh though sashimi ok. Rice good, soup had slightly weird taste. Most disappointing was the nabe udon - tasteless broth and lacking toppings (not pictured). Presentation good, overall slightly above average experience but minus 1 star as food could have been better.
