You could walk past a dozen times and not notice it—there’s no flashy sign. Just a dark corner, a row of plastic tables, and the smell of frying dough and curry. Welcome to breakfast, or supper, Malaysian-style. For four decades, Mansion Tea Stall has lurked in the heart of Masjid India, pigeons and all—the sort of place the locals treat like a favourite old pair of shoes: comfortable, familiar, impossible to give up.

The menu is simple, the prices absurdly low, and the dishes are unapologetically messy. The star attraction is the Roti Special—a humble roti canai chopped into bite-sized pieces, drenched in dhal and curry, topped with two soft-boiled eggs and a spoonful of sambal. It’s sweet, runny, spicy, and slightly ridiculous. One bite and you’re knee-deep in what locals jokingly call Roti Muntah Kuching, or “Cat’s Vomit Roti.” Don’t think about the name. Just eat it.

The Roti Sardin deserves a mention, too. Flaky, lightly charred, stuffed with sardines and onions cooked just enough to let their sweetness shine without turning the bread soggy. It’s comfort food, the kind that reminds you of simpler times—if those times involved a minor risk of curry splatter on your shirt. Even the plain Roti Canai is respectable: soft, flaky, slightly charred, all the things a good roti should be. Though it’s no masterpiece, it hits the right notes.

Drinks are a similar story. The Teh Tarik is surprisingly balanced—frothy, creamy, and not too sweet. It’s worth ordering even if nothing else catches your eye. The iced version is a lifesaver in KL’s heat. Staff move like clockwork through a constantly full dining area, taking orders, serving food, and topping up sambal without pause. Seating is shared with a neighbouring stall, so brace yourself for elbowing strangers in and out of tables. Cash only. It’s 2025, but some traditions are sacred.

The food isn’t flawless. The sweetness of the curries leans heavy for some palates, and roti can be served cold if it’s been sitting too long. Expect the environment to be less than pristine. Floors are grimy, pigeons are bold, and hygiene is questionable if you’re the type who notices these things. But if you can look past that, you’ll find authenticity in every bite.

The crowd reads like a who’s who of KL: postmen, office rats, night wanderers—all here for the curry-soaked bread. Tourists show up and either love it or leave muttering about cold eggs and sweet dhal. The beauty of Mansion Tea Stall is that it doesn’t try to impress—it is the blueprint of messy, cheap, tasty Malaysian classics that have survived decades. Go for the Roti Special and Teh Tarik. Maybe add a Roti Sardin if you’re feeling...

A Tea Lover's Haven Amidst Kuala Lumpur's Vibrant Street Scene!

Nestled amidst the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur, the Mansion Tea Stall is a true haven for tea enthusiasts like myself. I recently had the pleasure of experiencing their delightful offerings, and I can confidently say that this place has become a firm favorite of mine.

Located on a street lined with a range of Mamak shops, the Mansion Tea Stall stands out as a fan-favorite among locals and visitors alike. The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere that instantly made me feel at ease. It's the perfect spot to start your day with a satisfying breakfast.

Speaking of breakfast, I couldn't resist trying their "special roti canai" - a traditional roti canai served with two half-boiled eggs. The combination was simply divine, and the flavors were an absolute treat for my taste buds. Accompanied by a steaming cup of Teh Tarik, the Malaysian classic milk tea, it made for a memorable and flavorsome morning meal.

One aspect that truly stood out to me was the amazing community eating environment at the Mansion Tea Stall. Locals and tourists come together here, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere. The conversations, laughter, and friendly exchanges made my visit even more enjoyable.

In conclusion, if you're a tea lover looking for an exceptional experience in Kuala Lumpur, I wholeheartedly recommend the Mansion Tea Stall. From their extensive tea selection to their delicious breakfast offerings, this hidden gem offers an unforgettable experience. Make sure to stop by and indulge in the warm hospitality and flavors...

Location: not the most accessible spit, parking was a challenge to find on a saturday with the bazaar opening up nearby Food: the food here is pretty interesting and unique, ordered the roti banjir special which is basically roti canai banjir with soft boiled eggs on the side. The eggs melds with the dhal curry mix really well and introduces a new texture to the curry mix when eaten with the roti canai. The nasi lemak was full of sambal but it leans more towards the sweet flavor and I didn't find it to my liking. Drinks: the teh panas here has got to be the star of the establishment. The tea is fragrant and the sweetness was just right. It's not everyday you get to smell the tea before consuming it in a mamak restaurant. Price: Prices here are quite reasonable for KL city standards. My meal which consists of roti banjir special, teh panas and half a nasi lemak came out to RM 6.35 Overall: if you happen to be around the masjid India area and are looking for a place to eat, this is definitely a go to. However if you're travelling from afar, I would recommend trying this once just to have a tatse of what this place has to offer.
