Had high expectations for this place. But I didn’t read the reviews before going there as was suggested by sister. Went for Sunday dinner, had to wait for 10mins for a table- not an issue as it was packed.. meaning good food. Got the table, waited for quite sometime before we asked the waiter to take our order. Firstly, I expect a restaurant relevantly that new to be prepared to provide for the large crowd. Mutton and mushroom briyani sold out at 8.30pm and the waiter was clueless about this. I hope the owner reads these reviews as your staff really need to improve on their performance and quality and customer care. The waiter who was taking our order- was running here and there while taking our order- just a minute maam- gone for 2mins- comes back again- takes our order— wait a minute maam- gone again. After we are half way through ordering- he comes back telling us no mutton briyani available- fine, went with chicken. Ordered chicken curry- rm22. Asked him whether briyani got egg- he said yes got. Ordered masala omelette for side dish. Finally giving my drink order- waiter paiyan went missing again and never came back to confirm our order but I managed to tell him sugarless iceless apple juice. Hoping he would have gotten my order, I didn’t call him back. Paiyan came and told us to wait 5mins for food- food came after 15 mins. Curry came after briyani rice finishing with missing egg, masala omelette didn’t come until paiyan came with coin roti (as small as my palm) x2 for rm5.60- not worth trying for tht amount of price, and he informed us sorry no more egg ready. But this restaurant did manage to piss me off, at first I stayed calm even though the paiyan was running here and there throughout our ordering session but if you are going to do tht- at least be smart enough to double check the orders. Firstly they brought apple juice with sugar and ice when I ordered for the opposite- no I cannot adjust because I am diabetic. I was just in the midst of explaining to the serving waiter that I need my juice sugarless and iceless when this smart manager guy interrupted us and ordered the waiter to get the next table’s order because he clearly looked like a dato’ and was demanding attention. I lost my cool- I shouted at him- can you please get my order right because I don’t want you to mess it up again- but totally rude of him. After I raised my voice only this manager had a sense of duty- and I told him your waiter was running here and there and didn’t get my order right. Then another smart waiter brought my apple juice again - after like 5-10mins, it was brown on top with the juice looking brown as well- clearly oxidized. I questioned him why is it brown colour- smart waiter said red apple- red apple fine but why the foam also brown colour? I had to raise my voice again and told him off again to bring me my juice properly the third time. Finally got my rm6 juice which was probably quarter or half apple in diluted water- disappointed. For me it’s not worth the hype- not much options for vegetarians- better pay a visit to Sangeetha or betel leaf. Briyani but not basmati rice- unsure what rice or whether it’s a norm for kongu ppl to use this rice or is it just normal rice used. But for rm20- I expect an egg with bigger chunks of chicken. Only got two piece- just nice for one individual. Mutton briyani is rm26- kalethele katti. The kovai chicken curry rm22 but came with few pieces only.. 4 orang share pun- each will get 1/2 pieces only- something different but not worth the price. Overall worth one time trial but I would say I would have gotten a better service at...
Read moreJunior Kuppana, a gem in the world of South Indian cuisine, has set a new benchmark for dining experiences. Located in the city of the heart, this restaurant is renowned for its rich culinary heritage and authentic flavors, making it one of the best dining spots I have ever encountered.
The ambiance at Junior Kuppana strikes a perfect balance between traditional charm and modern comfort. The interiors are adorned with cultural motifs and warm lighting, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The staff are exceptionally courteous and efficient, making sure that every guest feels welcomed and well-attended to throughout their meal.
Our meal began with a selection of appetizers that showcased the restaurant's prowess in South Indian cuisine. The Chicken Kebab was a standout, with perfectly marinated pieces of chicken grilled to succulent perfection. The spices were well-balanced, providing a tantalizing prelude to the main courses.
The main course was a feast for the senses. I opted for the iconic Mutton Biryani, a dish that exemplifies the essence of Junior Kuppana. The biryani was aromatic and flavorful, with tender pieces of mutton that melted in the mouth. Each grain of rice was infused with spices, creating a harmonious blend that was both rich and satisfying.
Accompanying the biryani, I also tried the chicken kebab, a specialty that lived up to its reputation. The chicken was cooked with a unique blend of spices, delivering a burst of flavors that was both spicy and aromatic. The dish was perfectly complemented by the soft, fluffy parottas that were ideal for mopping up the delicious gravy.
To conclude the meal, I indulged in the ice cream, but I don't know the name. It was light and refreshing, with a subtle sweetness that provided a perfect ending to the rich and flavorful courses preceding it.
Junior Kuppana is more than just a restaurant; it is a celebration of South Indian culinary tradition. From the impeccable service to the extraordinary dishes, every aspect of the dining experience at Junior Kuppana is thoughtfully curated to provide a memorable experience. This restaurant has undoubtedly earned its place as one of the best dining establishments I have had the pleasure of visiting. For anyone seeking an authentic and unforgettable South Indian dining experience, Junior Kuppana is a must-visit...
Read moreThis restaurant has been our personal favourite since they opened in KL. It was super hard to find authentic South Indian biriyani, specially the ones made with seeraga samba rice in KL.
If you’re in KL and love biriyanis, or want to taste authentic South Indian meals, along with veg and non-veg sides, then @juniorkuppannamy is your place to be! What we love about the food is they do not attempt to match to the local taste but use spices, seafood and meat that come all the way from India!
Bet this is the only place where you get good mutton, YES not the chewy Australian lamb guys, but this is goat meat. The seafood is super fresh and juicy, the trick is to use small to medium sized prawn, and they do not use tiger prawns like other Indian restaurants here ;)
What we love? Mutton biryani—the best biryani you would have tasted. Soft, juicy and tender mutton pieces that melt in your mouth with the biryani rice that the mutton is cooked. Chicken 65—you can’t go wrong with chicken 65, this is a must order side for us :) Pepper prawn / prawn masala—both these dishes have prawn that taste sooo good, and you find the seasoning in the prawn, and the prawn is without the shell snd is deveined. I literally had tears when I ate this, because I was kinda missing my seafood in KL after being spoilt by the fresh seafood right from marina beach 🥲. It’s a story for another day though! Lol! Non-veg meals—this comes with chicken curry, mutton curry, fish curry, egg curry, 2 veg, Rasam, curd, appalam, kesari, all this n unlimited! Pepper chicken—a semi-dry chicken roasted with spices and cooked to perfection. Mutton kola—crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside this is a classic.
The price factor is really low compared to other restaurants that serve the same food, and quality is much better than those charging higher price! I mean you get a mutton biryani for RM26, with a lot of pieces and egg and the non-veg meals at RM 17.50.
⏰Best time to visit—before 12:30 pm on weekends and weekdays so you skip the lunch rush and long queue.
