Nasi Lemak Tanglin — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

MENU VERDICT

1. Nasi Lemak • This premise is famous for its wide variety of lauk (side dishes) that you can choose to compliment your nasi lemak meal. For my nasi lemak, I had it with fried chicken, begedil (mashed potato nuggets) and some rendang gravy (traditional Malay cook). I came quite late, around 11 am morning lol but still got fairly decent lauk selection at the time. Do come early in the morning to have the most lauk variety. • Anyway, the fried chicken wing part that I received for my meal was huge and tender, the crumbs are fairly crunchy and tasty. The coconut milk rice taste quite bland but the begedil mashed potato is soft, delicious. the sambal tastes a bit salty but decent and not spicy which should be welcome by many (I prefer it to be spicier for more oomph). The ingredients (like anchovies, cucumber slices and peanuts) are complete and abundant in quantity.

THE GOOD • Wide selection of side dishes to choose from (come early if want the most lauk variety) • Price is very reasonable • Service is very fast despite the big crowd • Support cash and e-wallet payment (got dedicated Grab QR too) • Very close to Perdana Botanical Garden, KL Butterfly Park, KL Bird Park and Masjid Negara • Since the premise is located at a public food vendor centre, there are other premises that specialize in many kinds of dishes too like mee goreng, kuey teow etc • Ample parking spaces

THE NOT SO GOOD • The place's cleanliness could be better • Can get pretty crowded and there's always a queue in front...

The legendary, since 1948 Nasi Lemak Tanglin! My first try! Its quite good actually. Only let down is that its reputation preceeds it and has set expectations really HIGH!

The Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa also suffers from this same 'let down'.

Both these does not live up to the hype & sooper reviews.

Back to my opinion of Tanglin, queue was long, bout 20 people in front of us. Oh by the way parking is almost impossible! So go elsewhere if you do not like to wait for parking. And the food court is smallish and you still got to find a place to sit too!

About the food, we had fried chicken with our nasi lemak. Village Park's fried chicken beat Tanglin's hands down. The rice & fried egg felt rushed and lacks a certain something...... care / attention / love? The fried anchovies were crushed to smithereens..... overall i felt that they did not put much effort to try and impress their customers. Can't blame them when there is a constant queue. They must be under so much pressure to serve ....

I must say that their sambal is of the less sweet kind with a strong belacan umami. Tastes old school & this is definitely its saving grace!
