I had been refusing to patronize this famous Cafe/Restaurant since it opened, due to the long queue at most of their branches around Malaysia.
However i was very curious about their Vegetarian Laksa after strong recommendation by two of my friends, thus decided to join the queue at this branch at 5pm on a Monday. Took us about 10 minutes to get a table which was not too bad.
Ordered their famous Egg Tarts that came in a pair per order. Outer pastry crust were flaky and crispy, silky custard were smooth and not too sweet, which i preferred. However they are not the best egg tarts that i have tried so far.
Vegetarian Laksa was indeed good as it came with rich, creamy coconut milk broth with balanced blend of tangy and not so spicy chilli, complemented by springy noodles, Beansprouts, topped with mushrooms, Mocked Prawns and Tofu puffs that soaked the flavours of the broth. However, the mocked Fish/meat balls that came with the laksa were disappointing, in terms of bite texture (Too firm & chewy) and strong beany aftertaste.
We don’t really like their Vegetarian Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak though, as rice was not fluffy, but mushy and had very mild coconut and pandan leaves aroma. Mocked Chicken Cubes were tough and did not soak up or blend well with the rich curry.
Double Butter Kaya Toast was also average to me, due to ratio between Kaya and Butter.
Overall, their Laksa and Nanyang Coffee did somehow made our patronization worthy. Service wise, hope their staffs could have been better trained to serve in a full capacity cafe and improve on their attentiveness, efficiency, friendliness, hygiene and assignment of table, that would help comfortability for their...
Read moreI've been meaning to want to try this place at the midvalley branch but it's always long queue every time and every hour of the day. So when I found out they opened at pavilion KL, I tried my best to come as early as possible and yes there was a queue but not too long. There's so many variety of foods that they have that it's hard to choose. But me and mom just try ordered the hainanese chicken rice for her, I ordered Penang prawn Mee for myself, half boiled eggs, kaya butter toast, rojak, egg tarts and oriental kopi iced.
To be honest, the food was just okay. It wasn't terrible but at the same time, it didn't really wow me and my mom. Because the food we ordered, especially the main ones like chicken rice and Penang prawn Mee, there are other places that tasted better and cheaper as well. The kaya butter toast however was pretty good, I'll give credit to that. And the half boiled eggs were quite good too. Rojak was so so. The oriental kopi iced, it was quite sweet and I tasted a bit of salt too which is how they prepare it I assumed. The egg tarts were alright, flaky and tasty but I think per piece is quite thick and can be too much. I still like dolly dimsum egg tart better in terms of the size and taste.
All the food we ordered all totaled to RM101. For 2 person eating, I would say it's expensive and the taste wasn't as wow as I thought. Some are okay and some are not.
But again, it's just our opinion. You guys can give it a try. Queue and order what you like and see if it meets your expectations. It will be our first and probably our last. Unless the queue becomes lesser, then maybe I would try again and order something else...
Read moreNot a new name when it comes to modern kopitiam for a price. It's clean and service is prompt. Only thing is the environment is noisy but that's the crowd. They offer a good variety for everyone but honestly not everything is good. Some is OK but some dishes stand out. Today I ordered the ones that stood out. First up is the Fried Boneless Chicken Nasi Lemak. This is one of their signature dish and everything on the plate is good. Rice is fragrant but not too rich with coconut and pandan. Sambal is sweet and mildly spicy. Crunchy Cucumber and the highlight, the poached style onsen egg. They nailed the egg! It's my favourite! Right portion too for the price. Next is the Nanyang Curry Chicken Kampung MeeHoon. Despite looking pale as in literally white, it's actually flavourful and they claim to have added in fish sauce. Remember to squeeze the lime to add that zesty kick. Luckily nothing smells fishy here. Comes with the poached egg and sambal also. The Curry Chicken is rich and tasty, very Chinese style that is close to a diluted version Curry Mee. Generous portion here with potatoes, tofu puffs and chicken of course. Recommended! The drinks are not bad as well. Iced Kopi with Cincau. Not too bitter and sufficiently sweet (not sweet by most people standards). Overall I would definitely recommend for the complete experience but then again not everything offered is up to "good" but...
