There are few things as thrilling as discovering desserts that dares to rewrite the rules. Sōfte, a sleek, neon-lit dessert bar nestled in Kuala Lumpur’s Ilham Tower, had been on my radar for a while—spoken of in hushed, reverent tones by food enthusiasts enchanted by its promise of boundary-pushing sweets. Ice cream burgers, curry leaf madeleines, jackfruit tiramisu—here was a menu that seemed to dance on the precipice of genius.
So, on one of my rare visits to KL, I made the pilgrimage. I arrived eager, expectations sky-high, primed to be delighted. I left, however, thoroughly unimpressed.
This is no slight on the kitchen’s technical prowess—the execution is meticulous, the plating pristine. But for a dessert bar whose appeal hinges on its audacious reimagination of sweets, my experience today fell disappointingly flat.
Take, for instance, the Mandarin Orange & Mint Tiramisu, my reluctant pick as the rain poured outside. One would expect a citrusy jolt, a clever interplay of acidity against mascarpone’s creaminess, a dessert that redefines a classic. Instead, what I got was a perfectly serviceable cake —inoffensive, pleasant, and utterly forgettable. It tasted exactly as one might predict, no surprises, no revelations.
Hope flickered with the signature hot chocolate, a promising concoction topped with pumpkin mousse and melted marshmallow. But while it was undoubtedly well-executed, it lacked the ingenuity that made past menu highlights—like the banoffee pie infused with curry leaf and black lime or the gateau opera or the tamarind cheesecake, rambutan, and passion fruit or the curry leaves madeleines — so compelling.
Perhaps most disappointing of all was discovering that weekend specials, once a Sōfte’s allure, are no longer on the menu. At its price point, one expects more than just technical skill. One expects the kind of creativity that makes a detour worthwhile, that sparks conversation, that lingers on the palate and the mind.
Alas, today, Sōfte offered...

I had high hopes when visiting Keepitsofte. From the outside, it’s absolutely beautiful — a perfect spot for OOTD shots.
✅🟢 Design & Ambience: The place is stylish and unique, with a gourmet-inspired vibe. The lighting is amazing and really enhances the visual appeal — especially for photos.
But once I stepped inside, things started to fall short.
❌🔴 Seating & Comfort: The interior felt cramped, with seating placed very close to one another. There’s little to no privacy, and it wasn’t comfortable to sit and enjoy dessert.
❌🔴 Lighting Inside: While the dim lighting works well for mood, it made it difficult to eat comfortably or take clear photos — which was disappointing given how photogenic the exterior is.
❌🔴 Menu Experience: The menu was confusing — no clear pictures, and the layout was split weirdly. It made choosing difficult and a bit frustrating.
I decided to try their new Romano ice cream. ❌🔴 Taste & Texture: It had a lot of textures and flavors, but they didn’t blend well. The texture felt off, and the overall taste just wasn’t enjoyable — at least for me.
❌🔴 Price Point: The pricing was on the higher side, which would be okay if the quality matched — but unfortunately, it didn’t deliver.
✅🟢 Instagram Worthy: From the outside, the place still looks great and is worth a quick photo if you’re nearby.
But overall, it felt more like a hype spot for social media than a truly satisfying dessert experience. I’d much rather visit other gelato places that offer better taste, comfort, and value.

Read moreBeen wanting to visit this place since I saw it on Instagram. Managed to visit with a couple of friends after dinner just an hour before closing on a weekday and it wasn't crowded. A relatively nice place and pretty futuristic looking, we didn't really know what to get so we went to the order counter and asked the cashier for some help. She recommended us quite a few things, everything looked so interesting we wanted to try everything but was just too full after dinner. Ended up ordering 3 items to share. First had the mint chocolate chip pavlova, which looked quite big when it was served. It was well executed and first time eating pavlova with mint ice cream so it was quite unique. Then we had the pink cow, thought it was very refreshing and was a good palette cleanser after the dinner. We also had the mint vs matcha which was really unusual but also very enjoyable. A very interesting place with interesting concept of dessert. Very adventurous of combining different flavours which are unthought of, didn't expect it to work and the flavours did actually work so well together, especially the mint and matcha surprise. You may not be a big fan of ice cream but I think you definitely want to give it a try just by the visual effect of it. Please come here with companions so you can order a few items to share instead of just enjoying it alone. Will definitely visit this place again with other friends and want to try everything they have in their menu. Who would have thought the place to look so funky and yet the bill was so reasonable for the quality of desserts served? Definitely...
