Located within the MiCasa Hotel, just off Jalan Ampang and close to the American Embassy, Shiso Dining presents itself with an interesting first impression. At first glance, it resembles a sports bar, with black and white tiled floor and wood panelling of a a large central bar area featuring TV screens broadcasting live sports. However, the surrounding dining area offers a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere, making it suitable for a proper sit-down meal. Itās worth noting that this space also serves as the breakfast area for hotel guests, so the layout is quite open and spacious.
The dinner menu is reasonably extensive, featuring a solid selection of Malaysian dishes, and the drinks menu includes a good variety of cocktails. The service stood out due to the high staff-to-guest ratio, making the experience more interactive and attentive.
The highlight of the evening was the Nasi Goreng Kampung ā a satisfying plate of Malaysian fried rice served with a fried egg, side salad, and three skewers of satay. The satay was flavourful with a nicely balanced sauce, though a slightly more generous portion of the meat would have better matched the ample serving of rice.
Unfortunately, the Negroni cocktail was a letdown. It tasted as though it had been made with lower-quality ingredients, particularly the vermouth and Campari substitutes, leaving the drink somewhat flat and unrefined.
A helpful bonus: diners receive three hours of complimentary parking in the basement car park of the MiCasa Hotel, which adds to the convenience.
Overall, Shiso is a decent spot for a casual Malaysian meal, with attentive service and a comfortable setting ā though thereās room for improvement on the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNice bistro with Japanese fair. Price is decent for a hotel restaurant and the quality of food is pretty good. Was actually very pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here even though the menu did not look as inspiring š
Recommended dishes - Chinese fried rice (chicken Katsu was perfectly crisp and juicy), mixed garden salad (loved the sesame dressing!), spaghettini aglio olio, mushroom soup.
The vongole pasta fell short of taste on the pasta part (a bit bland) but the clams were fresh and thatās super important for any vongole.
Wouldnāt recommend the pizza (the dough was a bit weird - not sure if overbaked?) and salmon fillet - this probably the most disappointing, as the skin was not crispy at all and it was very soft. Didnāt look like it went through a hot pan.
Alas, we loved the dessert - matcha parfait. Matcha ice cream was yummy and went well with the cream, muesli and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent for lunch with a friend a few days ago. Ordered fish m chips while my friend had Hor fun soup noodles. The fish n chips appear ordinary while the soup noodles is quite appetising. The ambience for catching up with friend is good and the services were excellent. Parking for first 3 hours is free. If you want a quiet environment among a captive adult crowd for lunch, this is a highly recommended place for social exchanges over a lunch. Won't be able to comment for dinner until I personally experience it. Cheers! And have a nice day....
