Happen to chance upon this restaurant while finding porridge nearby on google. It was fully packed, came at around 1pm on a weekday. Packed till outside seats along the walkway were also full even it was so hot and sunny. Guess even the hot sunny weather couldn't stop customers from eating and sweating under the sun. Ordered the pork noodles, the broth is clear and tasty and pork slice is tender, however the noodles is on a little "hard springy side", it will be good if it was cooked slightly a little longer. The porridge tasted like childhood school canteen kind of porridge, it's kinda blend but on a nice side to go with the chicken which is on a separate plate. However the restaurant is stuffy and vendilation is not good, will be good if they could maybe service or maintain the aircon and with better exhaust pipes with the massive amount of people dining in...

Restoran Soong Kee & Lao You Ji Porridge is one of those authentic old-school eateries that definitely deserves a visit if you’re around the area. The place has that nostalgic charm, yet it’s well-kept, and service is surprisingly efficient — very quick to serve and English-friendly, which makes ordering smooth and hassle-free.

🍜 Noodles – The noodles were flavorful and had a nice texture. The chicken and char siew were decent, though not the highlight of the meal in my opinion.

🐟 Fish Porridge – Highly recommend this one! The fish slices were tender, fresh, and cooked perfectly. The porridge itself was comforting and light, a great balance of flavor without being too heavy.

💰 Price – Very wallet-friendly for the portion and quality. You get good value here compared to many...

I visited Soong Kee Beef Noodles in December 2024. This is a KL icon since 1945 — serving up delicious beef noodles with rich flavors and heritage charm.

The springy noodles are topped with a savory minced meat mix, while the clear beef broth surprises with its light yet flavorful depth. Freshly made beef balls are a highlight, though the tender beef slices may not suit everyone’s palate. A must-visit for an authentic taste of KL’s culinary history!

When it’s not raining you can eat on the walkway outside. Doing service since 1945 you will get good soup, spongy meatballs or beef. Signature dish is porridge with chicken. This time I had porridge with raw fish and like always green vegetable. Rice porridge or congee has a delicate taste no additional seasoning necessary. How do you run a business since 1945? No divorce, no generational handover could stop this successful Endeavour. Respect!

Oct 2025 After so many years, they’re still selling the same old menu — nothing new or exciting. The only thing that changed is the price went up and the portion got smaller. Paid RM13.80 for a bowl of mixed thin-sliced beef and stomach, but honestly, it’s not worth it. The taste is average, portion disappointing, and definitely not something I’d come back for again. Regret coming back — sometimes nostalgia just doesn’t taste the same anymore!
