Lord of KL - I always thought of the famous movie everytime I read this name.
Truth be told, the visit to LOKL was quite a long time ago and therefore some dishes might or might not be available anymore.
LOKL has been the one of the pioneers of coffee scene along the rejuvenated historic Jalan Tun H.S.Lee but it was one of the last cafes that I'd come to along this stretch of road that is lined up with pre-war buildings.
The entire cafe is quite nice and Instagram-able, with a warm & friendly staffs to make your visit welcoming. Overall the ambience in this cafe is nice and they even have an alfresco section for those who don't like cold in the morning.
◾Southern Fried Chicken - buttermilk chicken, mashed potato, onion gravy, apple & walnut slaw. At the request of the meat-loving son who proceed to finish everything on plate, except for the veggie. The chicken meat was moist and tender, covered with a crispy and slightly spicy batter on the outside. ◾Eggs Florentine - have to say that I simply love perfectly poached eggs on top of smoked salmon and smothered with delicious hollandaise sauce. Made my day everytime! ◾Truffle Croque Madame - grilled cheese brioche with smoked chicken & truffle filling, fried egg on top. With such a perfect fried egg with runny yolk on top, it added at least a notch to the dish. ◾Both our long black and flat white hit the spot!
As usual, there's no parking spot along this road so the best alternative is to park at a private car park (but it costs a bomb!) Or take LRT and it's just a short walk from Masjid...

To start off, I was greeted by Arthevi (apologies if I got your name or the spelling wrong but pls know that you are a sweetheart) at the entrance. I realised I had forgotten to bring my card with me, explaining the current situation at hand and I asked if QR payment is accepted. Arthevi happily explained that any payment is accepted as she ushered me inside to a table.
Okay now I’m inside, the cafe is bustling with patrons chitchatting and the sounds of cutleries scrapping their plates. Love a good ambience!
I had the lunch set which comes with a side and a main (you can actually have 2 sides but I opted for one). And ofc I gotta get myself an iced latte to go with my meal. Lemme tell you what, the honey glazed chicken was tender, succulent, and it literally melts in my mouth. The chicken was served on a nice hot bed of mash potato and it was creamy and well seasoned. Just how I like it :)
I took chicken soup as the side and it was alright. Just the right starter before you dive in into the main. Definitely will recommend the iced latte if you need a quick pick me up in the mornings. I know I would.
Arthevi was attentive and keep on checking if everything was alright with me. If the food was okay, if I need my sauces and ketchups etc etc etc. She was just wonderful all around. Definitely elevates my first time dining experience here at LOKL.
If you’re ever in the Masjid Jamek area, pls come visit for some good food and...
Read moreOrdered the breakfast burger, which is as described in the menu as a McMuffin for adults. Not quite sure about the comparison, but it was delicious. When it arrived though, I had to do a double take cos it looked so plain. There was no side salad or any adornment, which is what I’ve come to expect of cafe food. While I think it’s still a bit pricey (what isn’t nowadays when eating out), I would order this again if I were here.
For drinks, I had the flat white. It was satisfying.
The staff were efficient and seemed passionate. The server who took our order was quick to emphasise the FLUFFY when my friend mentioned just pancakes, which we found amusing. But to be fair, the pancakes were justifiably fluffy.
Seating is quite tight, so it’s not a place to go if you want quiet conversations as you’re likely than not to be part of the next table’s talk. I found it quite warm even though air conditioning is switched on. The giant ceiling fan was not working during my visit.
The closes carpark is very expensive, RM10/hour. Better to Grab or take public transport or park somewhere else and walk if you can.
Extra special mention to the staff: I inadvertently left my umbrella behind but the eagle eyed staff spotted it and kindly kept it safe until I could retrieve it the next day. Am very appreciative of their kindness...
