A Disappointing Omakase Experience

The moment we entered, there was a noticeable fishy smell—something I had never experienced at other Omakase restaurants.

Despite providing allergy information during the reservation, the chef asked us again upon arrival.

With only two groups dining, we were arranged to be seated together just for convenience of service, leaving no privacy. The chef explained the dishes to both groups altogether, often facing the other group, making it hard for us to hear. The service felt impersonal and inattentive.

One dish (as in photo) included a decorative (though still real) leaf that wasn’t meant to be eaten, but this wasn’t explained beforehand. I ate it, found it stiff and tasted strange, asked the chef and was told it was just for decoration.

Portions were small, and no effort was made to check if we were full before dessert—a courtesy common at other Omakase spots in this price range. My friend and I started to feel hungry as long as we reached home.

The food itself wasn’t memorable, and the service lacked the sophistication expected for the price...

✨ Soul Omakase Lounge is a true late-night gem, open till the early hours and serving premium ingredients, many flown in directly from Japan. From kombu with gold leaf and caviar in tangy sweet vinegar, to straw-smoked bonito with yuzu and oysters topped with uni and roe, every bite was layered and refreshing. The sashimi platter—sea bream, squid, otoro, and bluefin tuna—was all about freshness.

The sushi course stood out with thinly sliced grouper, bouncy hokkigai, rich sanma, and dry-aged tuna that melted in the mouth. Sweet shrimp with foie gras was indulgent, while engawa paired with uni gave a creamy, ocean-rich finish. Warm dishes like scallop chawanmushi and charcoal-grilled codfish marinated with miso and yuzu peel added comforting depth, followed by a tangy red miso soup.

Dessert was a matcha cheesecake with raspberry jam and a crunchy biscuit base—sweet, tart, and refreshing. 🎁 Plus, through September, diners get a chance to win a TT Racing Airflex...
