Had the fish n chips, pizza margherita and the paperkite flight. To be frank, we came here mainly to try out Paperkite for their world award winning craft beer and especially since it’s a local brand. I’ll write a more detailed review on each of the flavours below after I write about the food and service.
The service was great ❤️ Cindy was our server and she was so attentive, responsive and kind. Always helped out whenever we asked for refills or whenever we needed assistance with the parking and member registration
At the time of this review, Tap Room is doing a 50% off on one main for new members. You can ask your server for the QR code to register and they’ll help you redeem both the discount and your parking.
Was recommended to order their fish n chips by a friend, they’re good though I’m not a big fan of the slaw. Always preferred it as a light flavoured and more refreshing kind of thing that cuts through the heavy fried fish instead of the slightly bitter and room temperature slaw we got. Appreciate getting a mentai sauce with the usual tartar and the gherkins are a nice touch
The pizza is really really good, the cheese and especially the dough is fantastic. The pull of the cheese and the spongy soft and delicious dough really makes the pizza top tier.
When you order the Paperkite flight, you’ll receive a mini cup of each of the 4 available flavours; it’s really convenient especially if it’s your first time trying it out:
Pale Ale: My personal favourite out of the 4. Mainly because I’m more of a light beer person and I don’t really appreciate bitter tastes. The aftertaste is really nice and fruity.
Copper Ale: I had high expectations for this one as it won Gold last year and Silver this year. The only thing I can say is that you get what is said in the name, it has a metallic copper taste like pennies. I’m not a fan but that’s because I personally dislike bitter and metallic tastes.
Oatmeal Stout: Another one that I had high expectations for as it won Gold this year. It’s a good stout and recommended for stout drinkers. There’s a good oatmeal taste to it that differentiates it from other stouts.
India Pale Ale: Has a stronger taste than the regular pale ale. I prefer the regular pale ale over this due to it having a smoother feel and fresher aftertaste but this is my second favourite out of the four.
The great thing about Paperkite is that they are exactly what is stated in the name of their craft beers. Oatmeal stout has an undeniable oatmeal taste, copper ale tastes like pennies 😂
Most alcohol and coffee breweries have a tendency to use flowery language and fancy words to describe their drinks but you’d have to be a skilled veteran in order to taste the light notes, Paperkite is not one of them. They’re exactly what they state they are and you get exactly what you order. I can see as to why they’re world award winners.
If you’re interested in coming here, do consider making a reservation especially...
Read moreNothing special about the food. Mushroom soup too watery and salty. Had to send it back to the kitchen requesting to add some heavy cream to balance the taste. Nothing special about their sourdough bread - crusty and plain (felt like it was made from China for such a fancy place)
Ordered octopus leg, TOO BLAND only tasted the char toched flavour on the octopus skin. The meat has no taste. The condiment too spicy but interesting concept/plating. If they had some sauce, or the octopus is not too dry, would be more palatable and can enjoy the flavour. Returned to kitchen almost untouched, but wasn't able to make the kitchen agree to my request when I asked without wanting to offend :: to boil with some stock the octopus for a little flavour infusion. Weird kitchen system as I got to know, chefs are not allowed to change the recipe - I guess if a creative chef cooking on stove, are not flexible to accomodating picky eater's taste buds.
My opinion, the chef is just doing his job and has no passion for creating or making food. If my manu chefs buddies got a plate sent back, their heart would sink or try to improve the dish. These are my honest feedback about tap room's food. Not to be confused with the pizza by Pizza Duo.
Ordered a cup of wine, wanted to order a bottle of wine, but they (waiter/ bartender/ manager) did not have know anything about the wine. Waited 30mins for them to find someone to explain me about suitable wine. I decided not to pursue getting the bottle and end my spending immediately.
Annik is a very helpful server - making sure my requests are being fulfilled as best as he can perform.
The kind lady standing by the door js super nice, making sure everybody felt welcomed and comfortable with the place she chooses new customers walking in.
Please learn and update about wine knowlede, French people drink wine day time. There's a kitchen helper in Pizza Duo has fantastic knowledge about wine - he was a wine sommelier for some years, excellent for the job. I was recommended by him to try the pizza at a comfortable dining place for me to enjoy. But apparently KITCHEN STAFFS are not allowed to be on the floor. But the tap room kitchen staffs are allowed. Just comparing and sharing. If this were the case, maybe Pizza Duo should operate independently outside Tap Room or own a place so that THERE WOULD BE INTERACTIONS between loyal customers towards staffs they know without breaking the landlord's rule.
Thank God there's pizza there 🙌
Would be willing to give another try if they are happy to improve and also be getting some interesting offers from them. If not - first and last choice for me.
Manager is nice, but have an unwelcoming face. Overall, they are willing to respond...
Read moreBeautiful place n decor. But having to dine on high chairs and high tables is not for me. The size of the table ratio to food serving plate sizes to the number of pax is ridiculous, and the lack of foresight by those who plan the sitting arrangements. We were a group of 3 asked to sit at a high table & chair setting at dinner time, even though there were proper dining tables available, with the excuse that the section is not open yet. I requested for a manager to give us a normal size dining tables which was available, was refused based on above excuse, then a bigger table, since I can already sees that the amount of foodand plates we want to order will not fit the current table, as I already have the list of food I want to try there. The manager then gave us a table for 6 pax (still a high setting), and even that table can't fit all of our food and drinks on the so-called table for 6.
1We ordered Nasi Goreng Seafood (👎👎)!, The Meat Platter(👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼), Gambas Al Ajillo👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼, Shroomi Pizza👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼, a vege appetiser made from eggplants and chimichurri (👎👎👎), Rain Drop Cake 👍🏼👍🏼, and drinks were mocktails Peaches & Melon (👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼) and cappuccino (so-so). There are only 10 items, and it can not fit the table. We would have enjoyed it better if we had a more comfortable setting to sit and eat.
The dessert selection is limited, and too heavy to eat after their meals, more like a breakfast choice with waffles and muesli, which led us to try the Rain Drop Cake, which is unexpectedly curiously delicious.
The service staff are attentive and helpful in all areas of the place, so that is pleasant, but then so is most places with similar standards.
The ambience in terms of sound is comfortable to have conversation 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
As for temperature controls, it can be improved because it gets warm and humid after food even though it was a rainy evening.
There's a few big screens around that showed the English football, so that made my husband happy.
I saw a few couples came for romantic dinner, but with the setting, I would have been an unhappy date.
To me, the Tap Room KL setting is more of like a nicely decorated night foodcourt with fancier food and pricey tags suitable for football nights and drinks.
The place serves pork free food and...
