Extremely sub-par experience here. So many odd things that happened, & food didn’t match up to the 4.3 stars shown on google maps.
Appreciate the effort of the boss (I assumed that’s who he is) to serve us & take us through the menu, but ultimately the quality of food & experience fell flat.
(1) We had already keyed in our entire order using our phone/QR code, but was asked not to submit it (after many bewildering rounds of clarifications). Instead, we told to pass our phone to the server for him to refer to, & manually take down our order to submit to the kitchen. Very inefficient & strange, especially since we had already done all the keying in work.
(2) The Chicken Masala was heavily pushed to us; apparently tourists from China especially enjoy it. It was at best just okay (with the context that in our home country, we have this cuisine readily available).
(3) The curries served alongside the prata were very watery, & so was the coffee.
(4) The quantities & delivery of our food messed up majorly. Unsure if the root cause is an error on the ordering waiter’s part, or the kitchen’s, or both. (Regardless, that was really off-putting to me, because we were strangely denied the opportunity to key in our own orders electronically.)
Ordered 2 egg & cheese pratas, but 3 were served. Told the boss about it, & he said that the orders are directly sent to the kitchen. Don’t know what kind of a non-response that was, but I couldn’t be bothered to remind him that WE weren’t the ones who keyed in the order. We offered to, but he told us not to, several times.
The tissue prata that we were looking forward to never arrived. Several other tables that ordered later than us got theirs first. We eventually cancelled it because we were unimpressed by the other dishes we had already consumed.
(5) Everything was operationally messy & chaotic.. Even the billing took a while, & they asked us for the plastic billing card - despite them having taken it away from us after we ordered. Seems like the SOPs aren’t clearly established here; which makes it very confusing for the customers.
I’m unlikely to return here again. I do wish this had been a better experience, but it is what it is. Do not recommend having a meal here unless you are absolutely starving...
Read moreI’m pretty conflicted about this place. First off, the food is good, really good. Not the best I’ve had outside of India, but real close. The actual restaurant is not that well marked in my opinion, but I found it twice so fair enough.
The first time I went, I got the garlic naan—it was triple the price of the regular naan, and I couldn’t even taste the garlic. I’m a garlic lover so I wrote it off. The girl at the next table over also ordered garlic naan, and it never came. I ordered a leg of tandoori chicken in addition to my other plate, and that also never came. They lose a star for these two simultaneous instances of inattention to polite, repeat customers by two different waiters. Clearly a regular occurrence here.
The other star they lose is far more egregious than forgotten orders in my mind. They don’t serve masala chai tea. No, you didn’t misread that. This is a North Indian restaurant that sells Heineken and Marlboros, but no masala chai. I have been to the north of India. If an establishment there didn’t serve chai, they would not be an establishment for long. It would be like walking into a French bakery that didn’t make baguettes or croissants. What am I missing here??? Chai is the lifeblood!
The billing system needs improved. When I asked for it, the dude shuffled over, scribbled some stuff on a piece of paper, and walked away. The average westerner is not going to remember their entire order, and what they each cost when they take the menu away from you, so there’s big potential for bill inflation. I can’t say whether that happened to me or not, I kind of doubt it. But if there was a big drunk group of ten westerners? I would be astounded if a couple drinks and naans weren’t added to the bill.
When I paid for a meal that cost 18 with a 100, I got shorted one ringgit. I didn’t even say anything. I just walked back to my hostel and wrote this review.
Great food....
Read moreGet yourself a tower or two (of roti)! Probably one of the best way to decorate your memory in KL, cause this kind city's landmark is the Petronas Twin Towers.
The day I went was a lazy Saturday afternoon. It was packed with Chinese tourist groups I almost didn't get a seat. I wonder if TG's is particularly popular amongst Chinese tourists or it just happened to be like that on my day. Every table had multiple towers I didn't have to order one myself lol (I went for a quick breakfast on my own so wasn't gonna get myself one anyway. But then I was thinking, 'well pity, hopefully next time.' But the Chinese tourists nailed it and presented me the incredible scene of a forest of roti towers! Lol
Will I go again? Oh, yes. In fact I liked TG's so much I breakfasted here twice.
The servers who took my order and brought me my food were so kind. The first visit, my order got lost in the order chain so I almost left. I went to the counter and tell them I1 waited for too long I'd just leave (to give the TG crew some credit, it was the sea of Chinese crowd who happened to fill the restaurant all at the peak lunch hour). I felt the staff who responded to my complaint and I share a common sense. I liked very much how he handled my complaint. A genuine apology, a decent degree of emotional intelligence and a gentle manner to convince me to stay (the chef is making your roti right now! Just wair 1 minute!). For me, commercial/trade ethics of sellers/merchants/business people matter to me a ton for every hard-earned dollar I pay. This staff passed my test. I wish I knew his name.
I ordered roti pisang (banana). I immediately fell in love with the perfect crispiness. I trust my roti chef and the team. See you again...
