A Taste of Sarawak in the Heart of Melaka—Don’t Miss This Hidden Gem!

Tucked away in the charming streets of Melaka is a culinary gem that transports you straight to Sarawak—a cozy restaurant run by a warm, friendly couple whose passion for their heritage shines through every detail. From the moment I stepped in, the owners’ genuine hospitality and the restaurant’s thoughtfully curated decor, adorned with Sarawakian crafts , made me feel like I was dining in a loved one’s home rather than a commercial eatery.

The star of the meal? Without a doubt, the Mee Poh (can’t recall the actual name of the dish), a dish I’m already craving as I write this. The springy noodles, tossed in a plain looking savory sauce with a hint of pork lard, were utterly addictive. While the Lor Mee (rich broth with tender braised meats served separately) and Kolo Mee (springy noodles with aromatic minced pork) were excellent, the Mee Poh stole the show. Every bite felt like a celebration of Sarawak’s culinary soul. By the way, the Mee poh is made in-house to ensure quality and consistency.

What makes this place truly special is the owners’ dedication to authenticity. They source some of their ingredients from Sarawak, ensuring every dish stays true to its roots. As I ate, the couple shared stories of Sarawak’s food history—how daily meals reflect the state’s multicultural tapestry—and their pride in preserving these traditions was palpable.

Now, I’m already dreading the withdrawal pangs when I return to Singapore! If you’re in Melaka, do not miss this spot. It’s more than a meal—it’s an experience brimming with heart, heritage, and flavors that linger long after the last bite. Super recommended for anyone craving genuine Sarawakian cuisine served with a side of warmth and passion.

P.S. Come hungry, leave happy—and maybe order an extra portion of...

From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly made us feel at home. The ambiance is calm, beautifully designed, and perfect for a relaxed dining experience.

The food was exceptional. My child and I absolutely fell in love with their Batik Cheesecake—it’s unlike anything we've tried before. The texture is incredibly smooth, and the flavor is perfectly balanced: rich, yet not overly sweet. A true signature dessert!

Another unexpected highlight was the fried cassava. I’ve never been a fan of cassava, but this dish completely changed my mind. It was crispy on the outside, soft inside, and seasoned to perfection.

But what truly made this visit unforgettable was the outstanding service. Every single staff member was genuinely friendly, attentive, and full of warmth. It’s rare to experience such consistent hospitality across the board. We felt sincerely welcomed and cared for from start to finish.

If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would. This place sets a new standard for what great food and heartfelt service should be. We can’t wait...

An absolute must try if you’re visiting Melaka. From the moment of entering, you’re treated like family by both Wilson and Lisa. Wilson talks with such pride about the his own Borneo origins which has inspired the menu, which he talked us through alongside his personal recommendations. His pride is understood the minute you try the food, unique and delicate flavours with spot on textures. If I had to choose a favourite it would be the Sarawak Laska. Truly one of the best things I have eaten whilst travelling South East Asia. We had heard Lisa’s layered cake were famous in Melaka, so couldn’t resist sharing one for dessert. Despite my partner normally not opting for dessert, we were both blown away. Moist, not overly sweet and delicious. Wilson and Lisa made us feel welcome, and we greatly enjoyed chatting to them. They gave us key-rings as a souvenir of the evening, although even without this, it would be an experience difficult to forget. Wilson and Lisa… Thank you so much for your outstanding food, service and time spent educating us...

The owners Lisa and Wilson are the sweetest people on Earth, extremely personable and caring from the moment I entered the restaurant. When I told them I will be visiting their region and their hometown in particular, they got really invested and gave me the best travelling tips. Wilson spent at least 15 minutes telling me about Kuching, Miri and Brunei, and showing me all the places I should visit on the map. I will never forget this kindness. :) Regarding the food, I ordered vegetarian rice (I can't remember the exact name) which was served with complimentary soup and pickled chillies, and chlorophyll extract with lemon juice. It was my first time drinking chlorophyll - I think it's very healthy and a great idea to have in the menu. The food was light and tasty, and as you can see in the photo, nicely served. If you're in Melaka, definitely visit W&L, Lisa and Wilson will make your day better for sure!!! ❤️
