The People's Museum is the building of the Historical City of Melaka Municipal Council (MPMBB) before being taken over by PERZIM. The People Museum located at the 1st floor of this building was officiated by Y.A.B Prime Minister of Malaysia on 15 April 1992. The main exhibits of the museum include administrative, housing, social, industrial, tourism, infrastructure and agricultural aspects. It was developed to show the involvement of the people and the government in developing the State of Melaka. Melaka's excellence was also immortalized in the 'Melaka Sedekad Exhibition' known as the People's Museum. Among the objectives is to show the achievement and progress of Melaka State in various fields of economy, politics, social, education, tourism, industry, and so on and the relationship between government and the people. The staff are very kind and the museum has many interesting topics, each on a different floor. 1st floor is ethnography and some other bits. 2nd floor house a collection of kites and other pastimes which is very is nice. 3rd floor has a 'beauty and tortue' exhibit which is an interesting idea. There is also a coin and stamp shop which is excellent (although it's not technically an exhibit, it should be). However, it has problems. The ratio of reading to actual artifacts is off. There is a huge amount to read (and the translation style can be difficult) - not always in the most logical or accessible order. There are artifacts, but the museum leans heavily on pictures and dioramas to fill the gaps. The presentation of both text and display needs updating for modern audiences. Maybe an audio guide or something interactive like kite building or a tiny show to try on. Finally it was a bit warm in there. Lots of potential, but needs some rearranging. Visit to support them, kites...

The first floor introduces visitors to the history and community that make up Melaka. The second floor showcases the layang-layang (traditional Malay kites) as well as traditional games played by the kampong people. The third floor, labeled “beauty museum” dedicates a small part to the Eurasian community before moving on to cultural beauty practices around the world (foot-binding, lip plates, etc)
There’s also a stamp shop on the 2nd floor so do stop by if you’re a stamp-lover!
My only concern was that the aircon on the third floor was not working when I visited, and I found the information on the traditional instruments...
