The Memorial of the Declaration of Independence is located in Melaka City, Meelaka, Malaysia. In front of this memorial is Dataran Pahlawan. The memorial building was established in 1912. The building used to house the Malacca Club which was used as the social centre of the British people in British Malaya. The memorial was set up and officiated by former Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman on 31 August 1985, 38 years after the independence of the country. The building was built in 1911. Before that the building was known as Melaka Club. The building is also used for social activity by the upper classes and government officials during the British occupation era. After independence, the club is open to the public. Then on August 31, 1985, this building was made a memorial containing all documents about independence.
