What I got to say about this shop? Disclaimer!!! "NOT A CHICKEN RICE SHOP BUT JUST A CHICKEN SHOP WITH HOR FAN* You won't get rice in this shop if you're looking for a decent chicken rice shop in Ipoh

This is the first time I've tried this shop... First time experience was really funny and confusing 😕 😂 Reason of why it's confusing is because of the way to order and the menu is just on a white board in the shop 🤣🤣🤣 or by talking to the old uncle in the shop. If its you're first time just look for the uncle who walks really slowly and is walking in a cute way ☺️ 😍 The uncle is really cute when he walks and you need to take order with the uncle, but sometimes the aunty that's chopping the chicken will exchange places with the uncle and the aunty will take some orders while uncle chops the chicken.

Service is slow but after ordering the food comes really fast. If you're OK with the long wait then it's quite worth the wait. For me I would say the food the chicken is tasty but when you just drink the sauce on its own like what I did which felt really dumb it's super salty 🤣🤣🤣 I have no idea why I did that hahaha

But overall I would say the food was not too bad but not up to my expectations as it could be better. But I don't mind coming here to support them again.

The price is quite expensive overall but I would say its still quite ok. CASH ONLY BY THE WAY. I paid RM53 just for what you see in the photo. But if you all haven't tried and looking for some nice steam chicken to eat come try here.

BUT BE WARNED, THE LONG WAIT OUTSIDE AND INSIDE IS CRAZY. BUT DO COME SUPPORT THIS LOVELY ELDER COUPLE. Especially do come to visit the uncle whom is really cute when walking to take your orders.

That's my story of eating in here and my opinion of this shop. Hope you all who haven't tried this shop come to try this shop and write your funny experience here in...

Type: Chinese Restaurant Signature: Chicken Horfun

Being on the No1 Spot for Chicken & Horfun (Taugeh Chicken) for decades and an Ipoh top delicacy... This is a must visit place when you are in Ipoh. Do take note that the restaurant has uncertain opening hours (usually from 6pm to 930pm) do check first before you visit to avoid disappointment.

Do take note also that this is NOT a chicken 🐔 rice ship (they don't serve rice). Anyway, we ordered one whole chicken 5 🌟, a plate of bean sprouts 5 🌟 (always a must!), and another signature chicken feet 5 🌟, and a few bowls of hor fun 5 🌟. Plus drink... For a table of 4 the bill came out to be RM105 which was a bit pricey for Ipoh standard.

The food here especially the Signature chicken was cooked to perfection.... smooth, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The bean sprouts here is ipoh styled (short and fat) which goes really well with the chicken and Hor Fun. The chicken feet (Phoenix Claw) here was so good that even when I don't usually eat chicken feet.. I had a few bites.

Being a favourite since I was a kid, I love the hot fun texture and the Taugeh crunchiness... which was cooked to perfection. However I had comments from my other friends that the meat was a bit salty and maybe too raw (you will see slight blood on the chicken meat) and also some comments that it's too oily. Depending on your taste buds... I believe this place is not for everyone... As I am of the opinion that this is the best chicken Taugeh place in all of Ipoh and probably Malaysia.

Taste Rating 10/10 Ambience Rating 6/10 Service Rating...

I read most comments below and said it’s reasonable price.. Alright, It’s no doubt deliciousness to your delight. But seriously, i don’t see it’s reasonable price at all. Well, I went eating in with only my tiny 6yo girl(just mom&daughter time), in this case, then it’s no question that I ordered 2rice noodles, and I asked for quarter chicken with a well responded yes and 1sprouts(xs)(please dont hesitate to remark that it’s no jokingly super mini portion- it’s sorta like those regular small&round dimsum serving plate), later then 1regular iced leong Sui(barley “water” which I couldn’t manage to find a tiny single barley)....in total cost me RM28. If I divided it to 5items equally its RM5.60/each?? I was later told that the emptied chicken pinkish serving plate was calculated as RM16 accordingly( it means its not calculated according the portion as I ordered no matter quarterly, half or full chicken..nor as if the quarter chicken served in half chicken plate as I seen other table with bigger portion was using the same sizing serving plate)..! However, RM16 for quarter portion, be frankly, it’s not reasonable at all... and the “XS” sprouts etc..adui! After all, I even asked two tourists looking adults next table who had nearly the same as mine with extra orders of chicken feet and fresh squeezed orange juice in total 7items they had where cost them RM37nett.. I felt like “ey, what, really?!”... how come it looked way more reasonable...

Decided to give the hunt for Ipoh’s best bean sprout chicken (“nga choy gai”) another shot after previous sub par experience, and ended up in Restoran Cowan Street Ayam Taugeh. There was already a long queue as early as 6.30pm. Outcome: Totally made up my previous disappointments and skepticism. The experience was quite pleasant as the lady boss was toggling between chopping the chicken and addressing the customers in queue, either directing them to the empty table or assuring them that the wait won’t be long (no air of arrogance despite the huge turnout). Once seated, the boss Ah Meng came and took our order. Menu is pretty simple - hor fun (noodle), chicken, blanched bean sprouts, braised chicken and chicken offal (gizzard and liver). The soup of the hor fun was flavorful, akin to Ipoh Sar Hor Fun and tasted even better given it was served hot (hot soup works for me 😬). The chicken was nicely poached and meat was tender. Don’t let the appearance of the chicken feet put you off from trying - it was nicely braised with spices like black pepper. Will definitely visit again.
