Kitty and I, along with our group of friends, were on a road trip through Malaysia, and we knew we couldn't miss out on exploring the vibrant food scene of Ipoh. We were excited to come to this restaurant for dinner, based on a recommendation from one of our friends within this trip. It was our first time trying it for most of us, so we were all eager to see what the hype was about.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we were a little surprised to find only a few tables occupied. However, we were told that the kitchen was busy and we would need to wait for about an hour for our food. We were a little disappointed, but we were all excited to try the food, so we decided to wait it out. We spent the time chatting and exploring the restaurant's charming decor. We were fortunate to get a table, as we later noticed a large crowd arriving after us, all with reservations and pre-ordered meals. This explained why, despite walking in first, our food arrived last, even though it all came out together after a wait of over an hour.
Despite the wait, we were all impressed with the food. Every single dish was cooked to perfection, with beautiful flavors and textures. We enjoyed a variety of dishes including London Duck, Freshwater Prawn, Ching Long Choy, Braised Sliced Pork Belly with Salted Fish in Claypot, Wild Caught Bamboo Fish, Omelette with Tomato Sauce in Claypot, Braised Pork Knuckle with Plum in Claypot, BBQ Pork, Roasted Pork, Chinese Tea (Pu'er), Appetizer/Peanut, and Coconut Pudding. The bill came to a total of RM 2,142.30 for a meal for 11 people. The price was a bit higher than we expected, but it was largely due to the prawn dish.
We were hoping to try some of their desserts, but unfortunately, the restaurant mentioned that as we hadn't made a reservation, we would have to wait quite a while for the desserts to be prepared. We were a little disappointed, but since it was getting late, we decided to order just a single coconut jelly to enjoy. It was a delicious way to end our meal.
The staff at Overseas Restaurant deserves a special mention. They were incredibly attentive and patient, ensuring our teacups were always filled and clearing plates promptly. When all our food arrived together, and there wasn’t enough space on the table, they waited patiently for us to clear a spot before placing the dishes down. They were also incredibly polite, helpful, and courteous, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable dining experience.
Overall, Overseas Restaurant was a fantastic experience. It's a must visit for anyone wanting to taste the true flavors of Ipoh. The food is exquisite, the service is impeccable, and the ambiance is charming. This is a restaurant I will definitely recommend to my friends or family whenever we are...
Read moreOversea restaurant is always famous in the Chinese community. They serve good Chinese food and don’t forget their mooncakes are always delicious. Wanted to have fish today but only 2 of us so the captain said it’s too big for both of us as the fishes now are all above 1kg . The claypot pork belly with salted fish is nice but very salty . The steam white tofu is not presentable at all as I’ve requested for the some spring onions and the waiter said finished already no more . I was shocked to hear that but other dishes had some spring onion in it. . The claypot belacan eggplant with minced pork is really nice . Tasty and spicy . It is chef recommended dish . The white rice is not so fragrant and comes in a small bowl and I bet you one bowl of rice is not enough for those delicious dishes . Restaurant is really clean and waiters are friendly and polite . This restaurant only allows indoor seating with air conditioned. Parking here is kind of hard during peak hours like working days , lunch and dinner time...
Read moreReally bad service. Made a reservation two days ago and asked to book the char siew in advance. Manager told me confidently that there’s no need today. Just went there today at 7.30 pm on 9 May, the manager on duty tried to make us order without looking at the menu. We asked for the menu first and she grudgingly passed it to us without saying anything. 5 minutes later at 7.35 pm, we tried to order and was told that they were out of char siew. She then sarcastically said that’s because we didn’t order when she came to us the first time. I pointed out that I tried to order two days ago. She insisted she was right so too bad for us. Really terrible service. If they really ran out of char siew, why didn’t they let me reserve two days ago? If they didn’t run out of char siew, then she was lying and trying to prove a point. Either way it’s poor, unprofessional service.
Do not go to this place. Ridiculously bad service where the wait staff behaved in an entitled manner and don’t treat you like...
