Located on a one-way main street so it's easy to find; taking a e-hailing from KTM Ipoh costs the minimal fare and no more than 7 minutes. (Though it is still within walking distance, the path and the weather makes it not worth the trouble.) Parking spot is subject to availability, but there is a public parking area across it.
Lobby is spacious but empty. Receptionist was most accommodating, and they speak English, Mandarin, Malay, and Hindi(?). There's RM 10 Tourism Tax + RM 3 Local Service Charge. Surprisingly no deposit.
Booked 2 rooms but had a problem trying to get into one of them. Fortunately staff was very helpful and said they will have it fixed by the time we returned from our short trip (and they did!). Hotel looks and feels old, evident with dilapitating decorations and amenities.
Booked two Deluxe Twin (with window) and the room is bigger than expected. Two single beds, hangers, desk, a chair, coffee set, bottles waters, a fridge (not too cold), a (moldy?) tv, towels, hairdryer, body wash and shampoo, dental kits, and toilet paper. There's only 1 international socket and 1 UK socket, both located near the tv. Tv channels are limited and they don't have very good picture.
Bed is soft and not too high, so elderly and children shouldn't have problem sitting down. Pillows are long and soft. One pet peeve is the air con remote is placed too high, making it hard to use and see the display. Also, it's quite loud even with the lowest setting. At least it's cold.
Toilet is low enough, but the bidet is the hose type and one of the room doesn't have the handle for it. There's overheard shower and handheld one, and the water pressure is strong. Ventilator is turned on along with the light so mirror will not fog up.
Doors are quite secure with lock and chain, though one of them has a faulty door closer where it closes so loud and makes a noise when opened too wide.
The windows are… certainly unique. Didn't expect the layout of the building to be reflected indoors too. The bad news is since it directly faces the main street, cars are passing through every hour of the day until it's night. Though the view is not bad.
A massage parlor in the lobby will give you a RM 10 discount if you're a guest. Self-service laundromat is right across the hotel, though it's best to cross from the red lights. The cars pass through quite often and fast that it could be dangerous. There's a mart that opens late into the night at the corner. Three gas stations just directly next to the hotels. Ipoh Parade mall is about 5 minutes walk. There are quite some restaurants within walking distance, but their opening times need to be taken into consideration.
Overall, it is… not a bad experience. Despite the old ambiance, slightly higher than average price range, and desolate population, the place still holds up quite good. The only downside is that you need a personal vehicle to navigate around Ipoh, which a lot of...
Read moreThe hotel was fully booked that weekend but the receptionist identified me before I even took out my booking.||||We were assigned Room 115. Although on lower floors, the room has the view of the petrol stations and Ipoh Parade. However, because it was on the first floor and facing the road and petrol stations, we can hear the traffic the whole night. I think some staff parked their bikes just below the room. We can hear the loud engines whenever some one starts his/her bike.||||There were two single beds in the room. When we stepped into the room, one of the beds was not at its headboard. The bed was pushed all the way to beneath the window. We pushed it back and guessed the previous guest had pushed it there to get away from the aircon.||||Room is spacious. Bed is comfortable. Bathroom is also spacious. Only bath towels provided (no hand or face towels). We ran out of toilet paper and tissue after one night. We requested for additional toilet paper but my mom wasn't able to wait for it. Luckily, our neighbouring rooms were checking out so we managed to get a used toilet roll from one of the rooms.||||Hotel needs some repairs/upgrade here and there. For example, we need to tap the card key several times in the lift to press our floor, and the tap is coming apart from the sink. You need to hold the tap to turn the...
Read moreThere is no doubt the hotel is within walking distance to many eateries and the room rate is reasonable. Unfortunately there are too many shortfalls that are unacceptable. We went back to the hotel one afternoon because of heavy rain. There was no floor map at the entrance to soak the rain water resulting water carry into the hall. The floor become wet and slippery but it was left unattended. The rooms are below the expectations of the same class of hotel. There was no tea bag provided. They provide a very tiny plastic spoon that gets bent with hot water when you prepare coffee. The centralised air con is noisy and has a fix to wall control that is not working. We have to climb out of bed to do manual switching off the air con when the room gets cold and turn it back when the room gets stuffy. The mini fridge is old and noisy. A hard plastic chair that is uncomfortable is given. The TV channels are all local Malay and no news channel. We tried to call the receptionist from our room, the call was not answered promptly and they do not greet us at all during our whole stay. So if you want to stay for convenient location, be prepare to accept...
