Today, five of us traveled all the way from Penang to Ipoh just to enjoy the bamboo briyani at Ipoh Kanna. We had dined there before and remembered the meal being absolutely delicious, so we were excited to return.
Each of us ordered a briyani, and everything seemed fine, until my brother discovered a live worm crawling on his banana leaf. It was very active and moving around. He suspected it might have come from the boiled egg, which didnāt look fresh. We immediately informed the waiter, but there was no reaction. The waiter passed the message to the cashier, who also showed no concern. Eventually, she called another staff member who appeared to be the manager.
By the time the manager arrived, the worm had moved to another side dish. They claimed it must have come from that dish, not the briyani. We explained that the worm had moved quickly from one item to another, but they didnāt seem to take our concern seriously.
We lost our appetite, washed our hands, and went to the counter to pay. Not a single staff member offered an apology, not the waiter, the cashier, or the manager. That was the most disappointing part. We didnāt make a scene and remained respectful, as we didnāt want to harm the business. But the lack of basic courtesy and accountability was truly disheartening.
We entered the restaurant excited and left feeling deeply disappointed. If staff arenāt trained to handle such situations with empathy and professionalism, it reflects poorly on the entire...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreKannaa's is located within the India community in Ipoh. Although not too easy to find, I would highly recommend finding it and eating here!
There was the choice of having briyani cooked in bamboo or eating rice and curry from the bar. I opted for chicken briyani, and it was so delicious! You could really taste the different spices used as well as the subtle kick of heat from the chicken. It was all cooked perfectly. The serving size was large and could easily be shared between two people. Unlimited complimentary currys and chutneys were also included. These all had a different taste and I thought they were fantastic! I also really loved that the briyani was served on an actual banana leaf.
My friend decided to eat from the curry bar. There was so much choice, and again, each of the currys selected tasted amazing. Care was put into making each of the dishes, and the cooks really understood different spices and flavour combinations and how they worked and...
