I stayed at Superior room for 3 days and 2 nights and here's my reviews: Facilities wise: Commendable. I love the interior of the hotel ( lobby, room, corridors-great deco. Plus gym is truly and added value here).

Cons: I have few bad experiences:

  1. Check in took some time to finish at the lobby

  2. The staff took so long to make up my room on the second day. I left the room in the morning around am ( and left the signage at the door to indicate house keeping was required). When I came back around 1.30pm, the room was totally untouched ! ) A staff came to the door saying that they will come and make up the room after half an hour. And guess what, I waited more than half an hour and still no once came. Around 3pm, I decided to go to the gym and went to see one of the staff to remind them about the room service. He then said they are doing the room next door and do my room afterwards. But guess what, even after I finished gym at 4pm I went back to the room, I was totally shocked seeing the room was still untouched !! As much as I tried to be patience, this kind of service is pretty unacceptable. Only around 10-15 minutes someone came and did the housekeeping ( Mind you its past 4PM !)

  3. On the day of the check out, I enquired the receptionist to request for a late check out at 12.30pm (cause I had some work stuff to do-working on my laptop) . Check out time is at 12pm). While I know, that’s the policy of the hotel, I wish the hotel had shown some leniency and understanding to guest. I am more disappointed knowing that the grace period for checkout is at 12.30 because 12.30 onwards they will charge the guest accordingly. I got to know this when I overheard a guess asking about late check out at the lobby. Had the receptionist explaining to me nicely ( and showed some courtesy) and possibly let me check out at 12.30, that would have made my day and that would have given me better impression of the hotel. It was weekday ( Tuesday) so I doubt its full house. Hence my request.

Overall I like the ambience of the hotel. However, given the above mentioned circumstances , I am truly disappointed with the services rendered. Will I stay at this hotel again? Answer is NO. Will I recommend this hotel to other people? NO

Had I been given considerable treatment as a guest, maybe my impression would have changed entirely. True that some staff are friendly, but I hate to say I didn’t...

On the surface, this hotel has a lot going for it and with a few tweaks it could be really good. At the moment however it's too much style and not enough substance.|For example, it's beautifully designed with some lovely furniture and clever updating of an old structure (the reconditioned floorboards are gorgeous). The rooms are small but that shouldn't in itself matter. They're compact and have good storage plus a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities. I was on my own. For two people I can imagine a lot of having to work around each other especially as, if the shower door is closed, the toilet door is open and vice-versa. Clever but actually, not terribly practical. ||More annoying, in my room there were no lights anywhere near the bedside. Nothing to read by, just a big but not very powerful chandelier on one side of the room and a strip light above the curtains. To turn them off, I had to get out of bed and cross the room and then stumble back to bed in the dark. In the morning, my friend in another room asked whether I'd worked out that the wooden rocking horse taking up half the bedside table was actually a light switch. He'd knocked it by accident and the lights went out. No, I hadn't worked out that - why / how should I have done? And why place a large wooden rocking horse by the bed instead of a useful reading light and then expect people to guess that it has a purpose? As I say, style over substance. ||My second major problem was with the breakfast, served in a separate but adjoining establishment. The choice and quality were poor, the time it took to get some simple buttered toast ridiculous (about 25 minutes from order to it arriving). The hotel has "an arrangement" with this cafe. I suggest they end it and either set up their own breakfast facility, or give the job to the excellent Japanese restaurant on the other side at which we had a superb dinner. ||Others on this and other sites have complained of the noise from the Karaoke bar across the street. I was on the rear side of the hotel and didn't hear anything but it's worth checking if that's still a problem. The bar is still there and very much alive and kicking! ||In summary, this hotel was fine for one night stay but I...

My recent stay at the hotel presented a patchwork of positive aspects and disappointing drawbacks.

The King Suite room we occupied was artistically adorned, creating an environment of luxury and comfort. It was especially pleasing to find the room outfitted with a window that offered an appreciable view, adding a touch of natural light and aesthetic appeal to our experience.

An unexpected delight during our stay was the excellent performance of the new air conditioning unit in our room. It served its purpose extremely well, providing a cool refuge from the sweltering weather we encountered during our two-day stay. This efficient cooling system indeed enhanced our comfort in the room.

Unfortunately, our satisfaction with the room's physical comforts was significantly undermined by other elements. The WiFi and TV services in the room were far below the standard we expected. The internet connection was unreliable, with poor speeds and intermittent availability, proving to be a considerable hindrance, especially for crucial business-related tasks. Similarly, the TV service was disappointing due to frequent signal disruptions, limiting our in-room entertainment.

An additional discomfort was the noise intrusion from a nearby bistro bar. The window, while providing a pleasant view, also unfortunately allowed in the cacophony from outside, disrupting our peace and rest in the evenings.

We also noted the availability of a gym, a potential plus point for fitness-minded guests. However, we did not utilize this during our stay, and hence, cannot comment on its quality or value.

In summary, despite some appealing features such as the room decor, window view, and the efficient air conditioning system, our stay was tainted by significant issues like the subpar WiFi and TV services, and the external noise pollution. I hope that the hotel takes these points into serious consideration and works towards providing an overall enhanced experience, both digitally and in terms of tranquility, for...

Kitty and I, along with our group of friends, were on a road trip from Thailand back to Singapore and decided to stay at Hotel Excelsior Ipoh. This was our third or fourth time staying here, and we always love it. Hotel Excelsior Ipoh is a truly unique hotel with a pre-war shop house style. It feels very superior and welcoming. The lobby is beautifully decorated, perfect for Instagram photos. We really like the design of the hotel. It feels cozy and eclectic, with photo opportunities at every corner, even in the lift lobby on each floor. The staff are always friendly and helpful, making the experience even more enjoyable. For travelers arriving by car, it's worth noting that there is no basement parking. We had to park our bikes at the road parking in front of the hotel. However, the hotel does provide a lovely touch: free flow of snacks, like sweets, at the lobby counter. The hotel also provides all the necessary amenities like toothbrushes, hairdryers, and everything else you might need. There is also a great Japanese restaurant downstairs called "Miya Kushiyaki & Teppanyaki." They are one of the few Japanese restaurants that serves white tuna, and the food is delicious and reasonably priced. While we didn't end up having breakfast at the Old Town Coffee Cafe right beside the restaurant, it's a good option if you're looking for a quick bite. Just be aware that if you're checking out early, the cafe opens at 8:00 am. However, if you are checking out early, there's a nearby restaurant called Restoran Sun Fei Kee which serves nice pork or noodles. You can try it out for breakfast. The only down point is that this hotel is off the vibrant part of Ipoh, which is near this Hotel Excelsior Ipoh. Overall M Boutique Ipoh is a great place to stay in Ipoh. It's stylish, comfortable, and full of character. Plus, the excellent food options in and around the hotel are a definite bonus. We highly recommend it.

location was pretty good. not in the heart of all the attractions, but not far either. its about 10-15 mins walk to Ipoh's famous streets where the chicken rice, local pastries, cookies and cafes are. However, as the roads leading towards those spots involved passing through quiet dark streets without much traffic, it's best to drive instead. The hotel has their own carpark lot (albeit not sheltered open space) which is a plus. now the rooms on each of the 3 floors each has their own theme. i was on the 3rd floor and i have to admit the decor was interesting. rooms are clean, bed linen is crisp. washroom was clean and void of smell too. good job. But i found the lighting inside the room to be lacking. It is simply too dim. i cant even see clearly whats inside my luggage bag. i had to use my phone's torchlight to find what i wanted. yes it is that dim inside the room. i attached a photo of the window with the curtains withdrawn for your sake. it was taken arond 3pm and sunny outside. but it doesn't help brighten the room much because the window is blocked by this bricked wall. this brick wall also spoilt whatever view we might have hoped to see from inside the room. another big complaint is that the bathroom and bedroom isn't properly separated /sealed. there are 2 large "holes" between the bathroom and bedroom, each about the size of a 27 inch TV. these holes are located #1 above the pantry, and #2 below the cupboard. this allowed the smell from the toilet, and the moisture from the shower to flow freely into the bedroom. also allows people to clearly hear whats happening in the bathroom, so no farts and noisy poops, please. another minor thing to note is the walls and doors are poorly insulated. i can hear people's conversation pretty clearly from the main corridor outside every room.
