Update: Takeaway on 2nd visit and they charged RM18 for the pack which had 2 small thin pieces of beef and a small portion of fish roe. While I find the beef is slightly on the tougher side, the taste wasn't bad. The fish roe was mildly salted and would improve tremendously with the addition of red onion sauce. However, the dining area is dark and not well cleaned while a peek into the kitchen side seems quite dirty. While the taste was acceptable, I find the cleanliness and price charged harder to stomach. No wonder they were ordered to shut down a few years ago by the health ministry as reported by others. Not sure much had improved but if I had known this earlier, I wouldn't have even came in the first place.
I guess there's some subtle difference when it comes to the fried chicken in onion red sauce between the major players around Ipoh, but insofar I found out most of them to be slightly underseasoned. It felt as if they're not brave enough to be putting a bit more salt. The texture of the chicken is a bit drier than the others but is slightly more flavourful while the rice appeared to be a little more firmer and the curries mixture tasted better. However, the sambal is the most offensive of all as it's bad.

Read moreHave heard that tourists head to the viral nasi ganja, while locals flock here. Boy, was it a good decision to be at Majeedia. We didn't order much because it was going to be a back to back makan trip today, but we couldn't resist adding on to the plate.
I was against the ayam goreng bawang, but my mom decided to get them - 2 pieces at that. Good decision on her part. It was flavourful, and the chicken isn't as dry as I assumed it'd be. The mutton curry was really nice, but it wasn't as tender as it could be.
The ladies' fingers / okra curry is so good.
The fried bittergourd is highly recommended. Unlike many places where the slices would be overly coated with batter and fried too long, with theirs - you can still clearly taste the bittergourd. While crunchy, the slices are still tender.
Our plates came with a dollop of what I think is red chili coconut chutney - with its sourish profile, it rounds up the plate really nicely.
We dug into ours too fast and annihilated our plates. No nice pics for this visit. It's that good!

Read moreWhile everyone raves about the “famous” nasi ganja in Ipoh, I honestly think Nasi Kandar Majeedia is the real hidden gem. It’s not as hyped, but the flavours here are spot on.
I really like how the taste of the food was rich curries, perfectly balanced spices, and that special chutney in the curry mix which adds a yummy tangy kick.
The best part my food and drinks together cost only RM30, which is super reasonable for the quality and quantity. The place itself is a bit cramped and humid as there are only fans, but for food this good, it’s worth powering through.
If you want a delicious nasi kandar experience in Ipoh without the long tourist queues, this is the...
