Arrived around 8.45am on a weekday and place was not crowded. Immediately got a table of our choice.
Dry Curry Mihun: RM9.50 - 4/10 We were served one prawn spilt into two and about 5 thin slices of charsiew and some mint leaves on a small mound of vermicelli. The curry gravy had a diluted consistency which may appeal to those who prefer a lighter texture. The gravy has a spicy kick to it. But extremely overpriced for what was served.
Dumplings: RM1.80 per piece - 3/10 Had better ones.
Fish ball: RM1.10 per piece - 5/10 Better than the dumplings but nothing special.
Small plate of bean sprouts: RM5 - 5/10 Average.
Hot Barley drink: RM2.50 - 4/10 Not as diluted as some outlets but seemed overpriced.
Hot white coffee: RM2.80 - 9/10 Only thing we truly enjoyed here, served piping hot.
Service: 9/10 Friendly and smiling waiter who was ever ready to help with recommendations.
Ambience: 7/10 Clean and tables were placed comfortably apart from others. Not noisy.
Overall, food was disappointing and generally overpriced. Coffee was great but logically, we won't return just for the coffee as Ipoh has so many other great coffee...
Read moreSun Seng Fatt (SSF) is very popular. On my Wednesday visit, the shop was packed and people kept drifting in non-stop. The shop serves many type of local Ipoh goodies, Lam Mee, Chicken Beansprout HorFun, prawn noodle, hailam egg toast etc. The people and bosses are friendly and the shop was very airy and cooling from natural air.
I had dry curry noodles and it tastes good with medium spiciness. Their Char Siew was very bland and cardboard-like just to pair with their tasty curry. Siew Yoke was okok. Nothing interesting. Not a good thing here but it works for them. The dry version wasn't dry as my noodles were soaking and swimming in curry. So much for "dry".
Overall is ok. I would revisit to try other stuff as well. But to call this the best dry curry in Ipoh by some...my opinion is, it's overkill.
Verdict: Good, delicious but too soupy and the pairing of siew yoke and char siew was not exciting. Could have been a lot better because their base curry was...
Read moreTried out SSF Restaurant in Ipoh recently and had a pretty mixed experience.
The curry noodles were a bit of a letdown. For RM10, I was expecting something rich and flavourful, but the broth was quite bland and watery—not the thick, aromatic type you’d hope for. It just didn’t hit the mark in terms of taste.
The lam mee was decent in terms of portion and ingredients—they didn’t skimp there—but again, flavour-wise, it was just ordinary. For the same RM10, it lacked that special something to make it memorable.
Drinks were average, nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either.
Now onto the good stuff—the soft-boiled eggs were excellent. Really fresh and done just right. And the toast was also great, crispy on the outside and soft inside, just the way it should be.
Overall, it’s a decent spot if you’re just looking for a simple breakfast or brunch, but don’t go in expecting bold flavours for the...
