Sun Fei Kee Restaurant is a well-known name among noodle lovers in Ipoh. With multiple branches — including one in Greentown and another near the Ipoh Stadium — it has earned its spot in the local food scene, particularly for its noodles. I would personally rank it as the third best place for noodles in Ipoh. The star dish is undoubtedly the wantan mee. Springy noodles paired with flavorful sauce and juicy wantans make it a satisfying choice, living up to the restaurant's strong reputation.
However, the experience isn't without its downsides. The "ju char" dishes, especially the sweet and sour pork, were a letdown. The sauce lacked the usual balance of tang and sweetness, while the pork itself didn’t have the right texture — slightly chewy and not crispy or tender as expected. It felt hastily prepared and fell short of the standard set by the noodles.
On the beverage side, the coffee is impressively strong and aromatic — a real treat for those who enjoy bold, kopitiam-style brews. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the butter toast. It tasted more like it was spread with low-grade margarine than real butter, which gave it a greasy aftertaste.
Overall, Sun Fei Kee left me with mixed feelings. While the noodles and coffee are worth coming back for, other items on the menu could use some improvement. It’s a decent spot for a quick noodle fix, but not quite the complete...

However, we were surprised to find the cafe was closed despite their 8:00 AM opening time listed on the poster. Feeling a bit peckish, we decided to walk around and see what else we could find. Just about 50 meters away from our hotel, we stumbled upon Restoran Sun Fei Kee 新辉记美食館, a well-known Chinese restaurant that we hadn't heard about before.
We were pleasantly surprised to discover that Restoran Sun Fei Kee had a stall serving hot noodle soups, a perfect way to start the day. I went for the kidney mien xian, while Kitty opted for the slice fish bee hoon. We also shared a plate of dumplings, recommended by the friendly owner.
Both the kidney mien xian and the fish slice bee hoon were delicious. The portions were generous, and the soups were incredibly flavorful. The dumplings, though, stole the show. The owner personally fried them fresh for us, ensuring they were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside.
Our friends, who ordered various other noodle dishes, were equally impressed. We all agreed that Restoran Sun Fei Kee was a hidden gem worth visiting. The service was also excellent, with the staff checking in on us and making sure we had...
