Look, you can save a bunch by dining here.

That's because this place provides the most authentic Thai cuisine I've had in Ipoh, and saves you a trip to the Land of Smiles. It started off as a modest shoplot fashioned like a typical kopitiam but with amazing Thai food. Now they've expanded to two shoplots and added air-conditioning. Word of mouth spreads fast and they're usually full during dinner service, so come early.

The service is adequate, and food is served fast. Although it is still stuffy and the air-conditioning not cold, what matters here is the food. I cannot recommend enough the basil stir-fried seafood. Served with large squid rings and prawns, each bite packs serious flavour, from the savoury fish sauce to the aromatic basil leaves. I love this to bits.

The stir-fried glass noodles is another favourite, boasting serious wok hei (smokiness) with a heaping amount of seafood thrown in, we usually order a triple portion to be shared. Other dishes of note are the white tomyam, green curry, steamed lime squid, moo ping and plain omelette. Remember to request for less spicy if you can't take too much heat. They're very liberal with chilis.

For desserts, wash down the spice with refreshing coconut ice cream, or mellow and gooey mango sticky rice. Can't go wrong with either. As for drinks, they tend to be too sweet (especially the pink milk), so I hope to see that corrected next time.

All in all, Wah Lok provides an authentic Thai experience at affordable prices. Their extensive menu begs for revisits, and I can't wait for my next visit here. Thai staples... Done...

Wah Lok Thai Restaurant promises authentic Thai flavors, but unfortunately, my dining experience fell short of expectations. A good Thai meal often starts with well-cooked rice, and that’s where things began to unravel. The plain white rice, oddly shaped into a neat rectangular , lacked both aroma and quality—it tasted like budget rice that had been sitting too long. Even worse, the pineapple fried rice, typically a Thai highlight, was greasy, under-seasoned, and served lukewarm, with little to no wok hei or fragrance.

The tom yam soup had a decent broth—tangy and spicy enough to spark interest—but was quickly let down by the seafood. The squid was overcooked, rubbery, and tough to chew, while the prawns were equally disappointing—dry, hard, and lacking the sweetness of freshness. The pork dishes also didn’t impress. The grilled pork skewers were overly sweet and masked any natural meat flavor, and the fatty pork slices were greasy and overwhelming in texture.

Surprisingly, the humble cockles turned out to be the highlight of the meal. Fresh, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, they offered a glimpse of what the kitchen could achieve. Dessert was another saving grace—sweet, creamy, and well-balanced, ending the meal on a slightly better note.

Overall, Wah Lok Thai Restaurant has potential, but the inconsistency in ingredients, overcooked seafood, and disappointing rice dishes mean there’s significant room for improvement. With better quality control and a revisit of their cooking techniques, they could certainly...

This place is definitely on top of my black list. My husband and his friend had food poisoning after eating at this restaurant. My husband had non stop diarrhoea even after 2 days. They suspected it was either the chicken inside Thai Green Curry or Khor Moo Yang (recommended by one of google review) as both had funny smell so it could be undercooked or simply not fresh. I didn’t eat any of the chicken or pork because it has too strong of chicken/pork smell when I have a small piece so I was I lucky that im not part of food poisoning disaster. (Although I did vomit out half the food I ate before leaving the restaurant ☹️) As I was on my way to the toilet, I walked past their absolutely filthy kitchen and vomit instantly (without even need to put finger in my throat) when I was inside their toilet. The cleanliness was poor and I couldn’t regret it more when my husband and his friend both had diarrhoea just 30mins after leaving. And still have while I’m writing this reviews😡

Came to this restaurant as there were many positive Google reviews but in reality it was way far from what I’ve expected. The taste was so-so, the fried rice was blanc and oily and the Tom yum was salty 😑. This is the first time we came and definitely be our last time. Highly disappointed!...
