In over a decade, I never get tired of coming here to eat and the food has been absolutely consistent every single time! It's just as delicious as the first time! The only thing that changes is what style of noodle I get depending on my mood for the day but the fried and boiled stuffed tofu are always perfect and don't ever forget to order the delicious sate from the uncle and auntie out front! 🔥🍢
Every time dining here is always the highlight of the day! After grabbing a table, go to the boss's desk (老闆) and grab a number so you can order! Pick your choice of noodle (vermicelli, Koay Teow, egg noodles, 老鼠粉) and any of the numerous toppings including beef brisket, fried wonton, bean curd, fish balls, beef balls, stuffed tofu and of course NEVER miss out on the delicious saute lovingly grilled out front by uncle over hot charcoal. To wash it all down, my absolute favorite drink, black and white! An easy five star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 every visit!
One year later, another OUTSTANDING meal! Beef, noodles and yong tau fu all excellent and ranked amongst the best in Ipoh. Uncle's satay stands in the front is also consistently delicious with perfectly grilled smokey skewers and rich peanut dipping sauce.
What a meal! Finally we have a chance to come to this famous beef noodle restaurant and they did not disappoint! The hype is real! The beef is tender and succulent in a flavorful broth. The stuffed tofu was plump and tasty. The deep fried items were all delicious as well and not oily. The sate skewers were mind-blowing! Perfectly cooked and smokey after being lovingly grilled over charcoal. The peanut dipping sauce was perfectly balanced. Drinks were also top rate especially the soy on the grass jelly (Michael Jackson)! Definitely one of the best meals that we have had so far! COVID-19 protocols and best practices were strictly enforced and observed by all for a safe and delicious...
Read moreI think there are few things that should be addressed to clear the doubts on the notoriety it has garnered especially among tourists.
The ordering system You first have to secure a table and then go get a number, located near the counter yourself. Return to your seat. Someone will come and take your oder promptly afterwards.
Long waiting time This is true especially in peak hours as early as 6 in the evening. Can range from 20 minutes to a whooping 40 minutes. If you're not a patient person, then do even bother coming.
Ordering drinks Drinks are limited to what the board has to offer, herbal drinks and 腐竹薏米 only. Don't expect white coffee or Coke.
With all those out of the way, you'll treat yourself to probably the best 料粉. The fish filling in the 腐竹 is so compact, tofu stuffed with fish paste so gigantic, rendering its competitors' 酿料 literally hollow and tiny.
And then there is the 牛腩粉. The broth is clear, but don't let the look fool you. The taste is superb with the beefy taste.
There are also Hakka noodles and other usual noodles. But there's no 只半 1 1/2.
All in all, it is the time honoured eatery that you'll come to expect, long waiting time and sweltering hot. But if you can bear with all these minor frustrations, you will be in awe.
Of course, there's also the pork and chicken satay which is...
Read moreWe came here as a lighter dinner option on a Saturday night and it was packed; had to wait for at least 15min for a table.
Note: This place DOES NOT tolerate kiasu-ness.
You wanna order first at the counter while the rest of your group stand over the very likely to finish next table? No... they will shoo you away! "You are blocking my business!"
When you finally get the table, they will clip a red piece of paper with a number on it. That's the next table they will serve. You try to chase them to take your order? No... they will ignore you. "Coming... Coming... Just wait!"
They will take your drinks order first and bring you the cutleries. You want a glass of boiling hot water to sanitise your cutleries? No... they will dismiss you. "No no... We don't do that here!"
You just need to order your noodle type and quantity. The "liu" type and quantity they will determine for you. You just need to decide on ratio of fried vs wet type. If what they bring to you is not enough, you can ask for more.
If you can take this kind of service, the noodle portions are good sized, liu is fresh and overall price is very reasonable. We didn't try their signature beef on this occasion.
While you're there, can consider the satay especially...
