Old school Chinese restaurant in old school area!
I always noticed this restaurant everytime I was in the neighbourhood, having dinner at Grub by Ahong or even Tujoh. One day I purposely walked over to look at the picture menu plastered on their glass sliding door and then made my plan for dinner.
Called them up to book a table, walked in and the family had a good dinner.
◾curry chicken - served piping hot in a Claypot, we opted for chicken instead of fish head because the son wanted it. I loved how the curry was brimming with fragrant from the coconut, not too thick nor thin in texture, and filled with ingredients. ◾pai kuat wong - classic Chinese pork rib dish that was a little bit sweet for me, but the kids love it. ◾steamed fish with spicy bean sauce - got the nod of approval from the elderly, and I've got to give them credit for the flavourful sauce coating the fish. ◾stir fried vegetable with bacon - anything with bacon will be good enough for me. ◾braised noodle with seafood - decent without much wow factor but it'll do the job.
The owner would come and ask on the dishes in friendly way. While there are many options for dai chow in this neighbourhood alone, do take note that this restaurant is air-conditioned with an affordable price range...
Read moreLast weekend, we went back to the restaurant, and the guy with glasses was really rude. It was around 5:50 pm, and there were only three big tables in this restaurant. One had a reserved sign. When I told the guy we were a group of six without a reservation, he told us to take the small table. Small table for six people? We sat at that small table last time with four people, it will be too crowded for six of us. I pointed to two bigger round tables and asked if we could sit there since we were six, but he gave me a unwelcoming look and said we could only take the small table. My dad suggested combining two small tables, but he said no. It felt like they only keep the big tables for larger groups. We decided to leave and won't go back to this restaurant anymore. Spend your money somewhere that welcomes you.
The dishes were pretty good; generous portions, couldn't finish, so we had to pack the chicken. Reasonably priced. We arrived around 6:20 pm on a weekend, and the larger tables were taken and reserved. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, maybe at least half an hour. The curry fish head was piping hot when served, had a lot of pieces of fish meat in it and the chicken rice wine was...
Read moreWas recommended by a friend that the food is delicious but slightly/can turn out expensive from some dishes (rm40+ per dish)
Food- their prawn fried rice especially nice/suited well with the thai zap/sauce from the fish, tho do note that the fish wasn't the fresh but still ok can eat even after they said that they get their fish directly from market everyday.
Ambience- went at 12.30pm+ surprisingly no people at all. Clean and a little bit old school vibes but still quite nice and comfortable
Price- still okok. Total bill for 2 is rm90 for single plate fried rice n 800gm fish
Service- very nice and lovely lady in her 40-50s that gave us suggestions on what's best to eat there. Only issue i have is slow cooking time since there's few workers over there and no other customer, yet the cooking time took 25mins+ just for literally 2 dishes
Overall, will come by again if im in a good mood or feeling rich. But highly recommend to come during non busy times cuz their cooking time...
