My experience at My Village Barok Restaurant in Kuching was marked by a memorable dinner with my colleagues. After a day of work meetings, we decided to unwind and dine together, making our way to this charming eatery.
Our hotel, Hilton Hotel, was conveniently located within walking distance of the Sarawak River. To add an extra touch of adventure to our evening, we opted to cross the river via a small boat (sampan) to reach the restaurant. This short journey only added to the excitement.
Upon disembarking from the boat, My Village Barok Restaurant was a mere three-minute walk from the pier. Despite our sizable group of 17, the restaurant staff accommodated us comfortably at a single table. We ordered an array of dishes, and the standout favorite was undoubtedly the fried midin with garlic. While the other dishes were good, they fell within the range of average taste.
The restaurant's design left a lasting impression. It seamlessly integrated the rich ethnic influences of Sarawak, featuring traditional wooden elements, indigenous music playing softly in the background, and staff dressed in simplified ethnic attire that allowed them to navigate the restaurant with ease. Notably, the restaurant offered the opportunity for customers to try on ethnic outfits near the payment counter, making for enjoyable photo opportunities.
Choosing to visit in the evening, we selected a table on the first floor to savor views of the Sarawak River at night and enjoy a quieter atmosphere compared to the bustling ground floor, which is better suited for smaller groups and families due to its smaller tables. The prices at My Village Barok Restaurant were reasonable, although compared to Topspot Seafood, they appeared slightly on the higher side.
Overall, our dinner at My Village Barok Restaurant was enjoyable, filled with good food and a pleasant ambiance. Personally, I might explore other dining options in the future to compare prices, ambiance, and...
Read moreHad dinner here last night and I had to share my dissapointing experience. We were informed that the ikan bakar there was no chef available grilling the fish which i find it odd and we replace it with prawns instead. We ordered some of the sarawak delicacies dishes - umai, midin belacan but was served without rice and cutlery. We had to go to the front to ask for it and still it takes a long time. Then when we asked for the rice the staff informed that they had to cook the rice and it will take 20 minutes more. As for the prawns instead of them informing we had to ask for it and found out there were no more prawns. Overall it took us 1 hour plus to wait for our food and cultery. For such a place attracting tourist and local its such a shame as they are disorganized and don't really care about what customers think. I'm a sarawakian bringing my husband which considered a tourist, i feel so dissapointed and angry. The food was nice but experience is really bad. If you are bringing tourist here i suggest bring them elsewhere. This place is just not worthy. To my village barok owner, nang sayang tempat kacak di polah tapi you guys simply dont know camney nak berbusiness. NOT RECOMMENDED unless if you guys like dissapointment and the place is so smoky! So be prepared to smell like...
Read moreI am not very sure either the reviews here are genuine or just to "jaga hati". On 9th November,a team of us are contemplating either to have our dinner at Top Spot (our favourite place) or Barok (which has been recommended by a friend's friend). So, we decided to try what's interesting here. The staffs are friendly but they love to chit chat with each others and can't listen carefully whenever we call for service. The food - were super FAST! very FAST. Until we got confused either all the food are "pre-cooked" or how? Varieties - only siakap available. We would like to order steam style cook, but they only have sweet sour or bakar sambal. Aish. Meanwhile, the portion - we ordered Medium (but, looks like Small). Taste? - tasteless ; nothing impressed us. We saw there are quite numbers of people visiting the restaurant but maybe because impressed with the interior design that assembled the culture of Sarawak.
Better to go to Top Spot - cheaper,...
