Warmth and Authenticity at Chalk in Rabat
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chalk in Rabat, and I was thoroughly impressed with both the food and the ambiance. This charming small restaurant truly lives up to its name, offering not only warmth in its service but also in the authentic Maltese flavors it presents.
One of the standout dishes for me was the Maltese Ftira. It was a delightfully crispy flatbread topped with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The blend of flavors was a true representation of Malta's rich culinary heritage. The balance between the fresh tomatoes, capers, olives, and herbs, paired with olive oil and a touch of tangy cheese, made each bite a burst of Mediterranean sunshine.
Additionally, the Maltese Platter was an excellent choice for a more comprehensive taste of Maltese cuisine. It featured a well-curated selection of traditional bites—delicious ġbejniet (Maltese cheese), sun-dried tomatoes, bigilla (bean dip), and fresh olives, all served with warm bread. Every element of the platter was perfectly seasoned, giving you a taste of Maltese history and culture in each mouthful.
The atmosphere at Chalk , an old authentic house with 1 meter thick walls, was cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a meal with family or friends. The service was attentive, and the staff was knowledgeable about the dishes, eager to share the stories behind each offering.
If you're in Rabat and looking to experience genuine Maltese hospitality and cuisine, I highly recommend visiting Chalk. It’s a culinary experience you won't...
Read moreI would love to give a better review, but I cant. Lets make it straight, food was very good (we had Maltese salad and Maltese Ftira), atmosphere as well very nice, but then comes the service.
It took approx 15-20 min that server even comes to our table and ask if we want anything. Once we ordered the food and drinks, we realized that other tables have been waiting for quite some time as well, thats when we started worried a bit. After 45 mins (!) we received drinks and couple minutes later the food. We know sometimes is very busy day but when you have 6 tables inside the bistro, you shall be able to serve them a bit quicker in 2-3 people. And I am not even talking about girls trying to smile or saying something like “it would take some time to have your food” that would definitely make it right in my opinion.
In a nutshell, food is worth waiting a bit longer, but definitely room for an...
Read moreI do feel if you walk away from the crowded places in Rabat, you will definitely end up in finding a gem. Yes Chalk is that kind of an eatery. Small, cozy, warm welcome from their only staff yesterday. She was very nice, presentable, politely excusing herself as it was a bit busy. Now let's talk about food: The maltese ftira is wow. Lots of Mediterranean flavours in a simple crunchy bread with a local sausage. Pair it up with local craft beer and you have yourself a wonderful lunch break. The cherry on the cake is their ricotta cannoli. I wish I had enough space for a banana caramel loaf which was tempting me to eat it. I did came back for a fruit smoothie which was a quencher. Again, the experience would not have been great if the lady staff was not excellent. So, kudos to her wonderful customer service.
I forgot to ask but can we sit on the upper level balcony, if I do...
