I found this little jewel on my first trip to Malta. After an extensive visit to the catacombs in Rabat I came here quite close to closing time. I was still treated and served with the friendliest manners. Even though I stayed longer than closing time, it was never mentioned and I was not asked to leave due to closing. Now this time Il-Baxa was on my to visit list for Malta. I had kot thought so, but the service is even better than last time. As vegetarian I asked for veggie pasta and the cook came from the kitchen to explain the different possibilies and variations she could make for me. For a small Café like this their level of service just completely blew my mind!

To top this all off... the food is fresh, local, traditional and delicious! 100% recommendation! Visit Il-Baxa Café in Rabat if you want to experience this kind of service and...

The restaurant was empty and they wanted to put us near the bathroom. The owner had a table for 4 on his own in a prime spot. We asked the waitress for another table in the almost empty restaurant. She looked to the owner for approval, which he did not give. When we said we were leaving, the owner seemed disinterested and made no effort to intervene... Seemed like he couldn't be bothered. I’m sure that’s a good restaurant. Staff is nice, menu is original, food looks good but my meal wasn’t incredible at all. I ate a hot sandwich with chips, I thought that was fries but that was classic chips. Also, there are not a lot of desserts, only ice-creams and there are not house made. That will be better with good desert. I saw pasta and other things and I really think that we can have a great meal in this restaurant. Just for the #1 in Rabat, I was disappointed.
