Café Wignacourt — Restaurant in Rabat

Came here whilst on holiday in Malta. The initial "greeting" at the entrance was confusing! We had booked a table the previous day. The manager is Italian and spoke very little English, she had to call one of the waiting staff to communicate with us. Eventually we were seated at our table. Not very impressive, plastic sticky table cloths, more suited to a picnic! We ordered from the menu. After a wait of over 20 minutes a waitress informed us there was a problem in the kitchen, ok we understand, it happens. The meal eventually arrived and my dish was not what I ordered! Not impressed! This was rectified after about 15 minutes, by this time my family had finished their meal. We ordered coffees and asked for the bill. I went to pay, but the Manager did not understand my request. How about complimentary coffees for the poor service!? She called a male waiter over to interpret what I was requesting. He apologised to me and said the Manager would not reduce the price. After politely explaining again to the waiter I had no intention of paying for them, she finally agreed to reduce the bill.Terrible attitude and a bit of a tantrum to! Unfriendly staff. I was there asking the staff for the washroom/bathroom. There was a elderly italian guy on the counter who started speaking in italian (although he clearly noticed i do not speak any italian, but i am pretty sure he knows atleast some english). Then a friendly woman who probably works in the restaurant tried to help me, but the italian staff continued to shout at me and the woman in italian. I left but the man still shouted at the woman in italian and really broken english. This restaurant has a stunning setting and that’s about all it has going for it. €18 for a simple prawn cocktail “special” was outrageous but I have never experienced what occurred after. We ordered two gourmet pizzas and one had toppings that were clearly burnt which made it extremely bitter. Rather than offer to remake a different one of equal value or take it off the bill after a single bite…they threw the pizza out and kept the charge. After some debate, they replaced it with a basic margarita. This place clearly does not know anything about treating its customers.
