You know that feeling when you’re wandering around a new town, half hungry, half lost, and you spot a place that just feels right? That was us in Rabat. We saw Roman’s Den, gave it the classic “let’s Google it real quick” test, and boom, five-star reviews everywhere. So naturally, we wanted to go in. Small challenge, though, it was still closed. Typical... But that evening, in a similar boat of hunger and curiosity, we decided not to overthink it and just head back. Best decision of the holiday so far !!
We arrived just after opening, around 7pm, and were greeted by Lynn, who is basically hospitality in human form. Friendly, fast, and somehow managing to be everywhere at once, making sure everyone was smiling. The place itself is tucked in a cellar, and it just works. Cozy, character-filled, and the kind of spot where you lower your voice automatically because the vibe deserves it. The lighting was perfect, dim enough for atmosphere, bright enough to admire your food. That kind of balance doesn’t happen by accident.
Now, the food. I had the Steak à la Roman’s Den, and honestly, I’m still thinking about it. My partner went for the ribeye and had that faraway look of someone having a borderline spiritual experience. Every bite was a celebration. Then Chef Daniel himself came out to chat with guests, which explained everything. When you take that much pride in your craft, you want to see the smiles you’ve caused.
We were lucky to stumble upon it early in our trip, because we’re already planning round two. If you find yourself in Rabat and appreciate food made with love, service with heart, and a cellar that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a local secret, Roman’s Den is the place. You’ll walk out full, happy, and maybe just a little smug that...

We stumbled across Roman's Den when out exploring Rabat. When we googled the reviews and saw the delicious menu we decided we could not miss having dinner here.
We arrived just after they opened at 7 so it was quiet (only 3 other couples) and were met by the lovely Lynn who was our host for the evening. She was absolutely brilliant and super helpful exactly what you need in a host.
We had some garlic bread brought before our mains which was INCREDIBLE! I had the Rib Eye steak and my partner had Roman's Den steak special both of which were exceptional.
We then had a visit from the chef himself, Daniel! What a character! He quiet obviously takes major pride in his craft. He was also full of smiles and offered us some freshly made profiteroles as the bill arrived.
I've also read some of the negative reviews and couldn't disagree more. The atmosphere was wonderful and cozy with mood lighting, definitely not dark and cramped like other reviews I've read.
My partner and I had already decided to return to Roman's Den before we had paid the bill. Very much looking forward to our next visit before the end...
Read moreIt’s a shame that I cannot give more than 5 stars here, as Daniel the owner deserves that and more! Tonight, I took my partner here for her birthday dinner. The restaurant was short-staffed, and Daniel had to do the waiting, cooking, billing and bar all by himself! Yet, he kept the show running, with an attitude and energy that made this evening truly unforgettable. It’s rare to find someone practicing their craft so authentically as here!
The food itself was amazing. Chicken chasseur and bragioli were top-notch, perfectly cooked and with well-balanced sauces. Cosy interior too, and to top it all off, Daniel personally congratulated my partner for her birthday and gave us profiteroles on the house! It was her 30th, so a very special day indeed.
Back where I live, that authentic human touch is gone; tonight revived my belief that there are genuinely good humans out there who care to put a smile on your face.
Daniel, thank you for this memorable and...
