Tar-Rixu — Restaurant in Senglea

My partner and I decided to eat here as it was a beautiful sunny day and the views were lovely. There was no one in sight to greet us so we decided to sit on a table with sea views. As soon as we sat on our table, we called the waitress for menus. After waiting for around 15mins for someone to get our order taken, I decided to go myself to one of the waitresses by the bar to let her know we were ready to order. To my surprise, I saw 3 waiters clearing a single table. They were told off by what seemed to be the manager telling them that 1 person is enough to clear a table as people were complaining regarding waiting time. I finally got the attention of the waitress only to be told that they were not serving pizzas at that time so we had to ask for menus AGAIN to rethink our order. I called the same waitress, she took our order and disappeared. The drinks never came.. neither did the food. After another 25minutes of waiting I got the attention of a different waiter and when I asked, what happened to our order? He said to re-order with him and advised us that the food was going to take quite long. WHAT?! After all that time wasted, you do not even care to prioritize us seeing that we had been there seated for 45mins waiting for 2 bloody beers and 2 main courses? And not even a simple sorry? No, I am sorry, because I will never come back and will never recommend this...

I’m sorry but it’s very rare that I give a 1 star to be honest I wouldn’t even leave that after the experience here just now. Let me elaborate - I was recommended this place from lots of Maltese people. I decided to come this morning we found a table and sat and got some menus, asked if we would like drinks and told them we needed a few mins to decide. 10 mins goes by, nothing we try get the attention of a waitress and she says she will get the other waitress, another 10 mins nothing, partner got up to give the order to be told they aren’t serving some of the items was told they would come back to take the order… another 10 mins and she finally came, we gave the order.. 25 mins and still no drinks we called another waiter a man this time and asked him to check. 10 mins we asked for him again and he tells us he can’t find our order, bear in mind we’ve noticed 5 other tables sat after us and have received their orders.. told us he will start it again we asked how long - no sorry no nothing. Said it will be long because food takes long 😂 I laughed and my partner then proceeded to speak in Maltese telling him that we’ve been here already longer than 45 mins waiting for drinks and food. Is this a joke. We ended up leaving . Literally the worst service and they looked lost. - what a waste of time on a Sunday they weren’t...

This is a fantastic place to eat. The owner is the chef who is obviously passionate about his food.

The lamb special we had last night was something I wouldn’t normally have ordered from the menu but I have to say it tasted amazing.

The location is amazing, set beside the marina the tables looks out onto Fort Angelo on the other side of the marina.

We found the prices very reasonable, the food we had was cooked fresh and not out of a packet like many others in the area.

We were mixed age, group, family of five who all enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. I gather from other reviews that people weren’t happy with the service, but I have to say the service that we experienced at this restaurant was very good all the staff were helpful, engaging, and it was an absolute joy to eat in this restaurant for our last night in Malta. We certainly will be back...
