We came to this spot based on a friend's recommendation. The pictures online looked really good, so we crossed the border, which isn't too far from this place. El Rey is located across the street from Costco. It was around 8 p.m., so there was good parking in the back. We walked in and were greeted by the staff. The staff was top-notch; they anticipated our every need.
We each ordered different items from the menu. The menu is small, but you can create various combinations of the food.
What I ordered:
2 Adobada Tacos 2 Arrachera Tacos (beef tacos, different cut than carne asada) 1 Quesotaco Arrachera & Shrimp with a flour tortilla
My friends ordered similar items with a few changes, and one of my friends had the nachos with Adobada. The 2 Adobada Tacos came with a slice of pineapple. They were decent but not the best. The Arrachera tacos were good but lacked some flavor in the meat, and the handmade corn tortillas were a bit too thick (the Adobada tacos came with different corn tortillas). The Quesotaco came with a flour tortilla, melted cheese, Arrachera meat, and shrimp. The shrimp smelled a bit too fishy for my liking, so I removed them and did not eat any of them. I tried the tacos with just the tortilla, cheese, and Arrachera, and that was probably the best thing I had. Everything went well together.
After that, I ordered one more Quesotaco with a flour tortilla, Adobada, and Arrachera mix. That was probably the best one I had. I couldn't finish it, as it was larger than the other tacos. I tried a couple of nachos from my friend, and they were good. He ordered the small size and couldn’t finish them.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this as the first place to try if you want tacos in Tijuana. You might be better off with other local places. In this area, I would recommend Tijuanazo, which is not too far from...
Read moreTerrible experience. I came here with very high expectations due to the videos they post on social media showing large amounts of meat and great food. I ordered the Arrachera Nachos expecting to get what I’ve seen in numerous videos. Instead I was served a box box of chips covered heavily in avocado with some nacho cheese and a small amount of meat. DO BOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! They’re terribly misleading. Even the girl who served me, when asked, told me the videos they post online are very different from the food they actually serve. It’s not worth the drive or the money for what you get. I...
Read moreOver all the this place was great. Food had great flavor, just when it came down to receiving my food it took a bit of time. I order 4 tacos , 1 de asada 1 birria 2 de abodaba, each type of taco came at different times first the asada taco came then it took like 4 minutes for my birria one and than another 4 minutes for my abodaba to come, and when the abodaba came it had onions in which I asked for no onions, they took them back and I had to wait like around another 5 minutes for my last 2 tacos, overall the food was great but it just felt that it took a bit to long to...
