Read moreThis is our goto place when we are near Hotel zone for Korean food. Make sure to set your expectation if you frequent Korean restaurant in Korea or USA. In Mexico, it is hard to get hold of some Korean ingredients so taste may different than what you are used to. It was certainly true in Merida Korean restaurant. OMGG use wood charcoal for Korean BBQ which that alone was worth a visit for me. It's something you don't see in USA that much. None in my NVA area.
Pros: Pretty decent food especially using wood charcoals for BBQ. Friendly wait staff and they were attentive.
Cons: It could get pricey with strong Pesos and following USA tipping policy. Most restaurant will add service fee (tip) in to their bill or have mobile card reader showing tip screen and will ask you how much tip you will add to the bill. I think you should add least 10% of your bill if you have wait staff cook BBQ at your table.
BBQ is not prime choice meat. If you are particular about Galbi, you may find it too tough for your taste. If you eat lots of Korean food at restaurant in Korea or USA cities, you may find that some food is little lacking in flavor and different. For example, Korean seafood pancake has little too much starch and not so much seafood in it. Kimchi and Doenjang JJigae may not be deep in flavor as you are used etc.
Overall, I think you will enjoy the experience. I took Uber from the Hotel zone approx. $160-$200 each way. Make sure account for that on your budget if you take Uber. Overall, we spent $200 USD for the night out. We do drink so one Soju and few...
Read moreFrom a Korean: This is the closest you’ll get to authentic Korean food in Cancún. Obviously there are some ingredients that can’t be found here so to a native Korean or someone who knows the cuisine well, some dishes will taste a bit different. That said, all the dishes taste excellent, and the service and atmosphere are both top notch. They even have charcoal grills with vents to pull away as much smoke as possible from the grill. It’s a very fun experience to cook the meat at your table. We ordered the beef combo, pork combo, pork belly, regular Korean pancake, kimchi pancake, bibimbap, kimchi fried rice, jajang myeong, regular kimbap, bulgogi kimbap, and naengmyeon. The combos come with several different ban chan (side dishes). The combos also include rice, soybean soup, egg soup, and lettuce to make wraps with your meat, rice and banchan. As a fun dessert they even have authentic Korean frozen treats. All the food was delicious. If you’re a novice to Korean food, I would recommend the regular Korean pancake, both kimbaps, and meat combos. If you’re accustomed to Korean food, I’d recommend the kimchi fried rice and naengmyeon as well (add your own vinegar and hot mustard). Overall, highly recommend this restaurant! I wish we took photos to post but we smashed all the food...
