We had high expectations per the reviews of this traditional Mexican restaurant. We love traditional Mexican food and couldn't wait to try this place! For starters, we ordered the empanada with negro mole which was not "negro mole", it was a red mole, mole is typically not sweet but this one was way too sweet, we also ordered the guacamole...it came "whipped" with nothing in it...we asked for the "fried beef strips" on the side, thank goodness we did because that was also a disappointment, greasy and inedible. The guacamole had nothing in it, but a few flavorless diced tomatoes and micro greens on top, it was not chunky or traditional, on the contrary this guacamole was for a piping bag for a garnish, think mushy baby food. Next was a specialty: Chilies en Nogada, a favorite this time of year....it was served room temp which in parts of Mexico it can be and when asked if it could be warmed up...the chef said, it would "break the sauce" which was ridiculous. We also ordered the flank steak served with a puree of cauliflower...the cauliflower puree was super salty and had a ton of butter in it, quite frankly it was inedible, I wanted a vegetable not butter and salt, the flank steak was served in 3 large chunks and was very tough after being "sous vide for 10 hours" I took a bite but it was so tough I could barely cut and chew it, I was not interested in eating a piece of meat so tough. I thought this would be a wonderfully tender smoked flank steak which was "smoked and sous vide for many hours", it was not good, and also the most expensive dish on the menu. We have travelled Mexico for 5 months and have had all types of dining experiences, unfortunately this meal was a huge disappointment! The food was literally inedible, we told our wonderful waiter to tell the chef that they should "taste their food before sending it out". We couldn't believe how horrible the food was for such a highly rated place, this was a huge...
Read moreThis is upscale Mexican dining. I didn’t notice any locals eating here but the food here is solid and so is the service.
Food - The portions are big and not just the leg of beef. They’re filling. Each entree had mole and they’re pleasant. The leg of beef, beef tongue and roast beef were so tender. The meat just fell off the bone for the leg of beef. The chicken wasn’t dry and that is a huge win. All entree items were salted well, but not overpowering. The drinks were delightful and they didn’t skimp out on the alcohol. The desserts were well-balanced and not overly sweet.
Price point - We dined as 4 people with 1 entry, 1 drink, and about 1 dessert totally about 42 USD or about 750 pesos per person. Entry is about 25 USD or 450 pesos if it’s a beef item.
Service - The three waitresses that tended to us were on-point and super sweet.
Ambience - Looked like it’s something part of 4/5 star hotel, so it’s pretty bougie. It didn’t have any music on and that’s okay. It was nice to be able to carry out conversations with friends and family.
Bonus! - Bathroom - It’s super clean with many stalls for you to relieve yourself.
Overall rating - 5/5 I would super recommend and would...
Read moreUnfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience at Comedero Tradicional. The chicken I was served was not cooked properly—clearly raw in parts. While they agreed to recook it, I was shocked that they didn’t bother to change the plate. They just reheated the same piece of chicken and brought it back, which felt careless and unprofessional.
The menu claims the chicken is cooked for hours, but that was definitely not the case. We also ordered the ternera con champiñones, but it was underwhelming—just a few mushrooms and meat that lacked any flavor.
To make things worse, there were no vegetarian options, which is surprising these days and shows a lack of inclusivity in their menu planning.
The staff tried to be polite and attentive, but sadly, that wasn’t enough to make up for the food quality and handling. I would not recommend this restaurant. There are much better places to eat...
