Oh, glory - I CANNOT say ENOUGH fabulous things about this sweet little Mezcal bar or about the owners Paola and Armando!! It's tucked away in a sweet little courtyard, so I might not have seen it on the "main drag" but I had the good fortune of being told about this place while staying for a week with friends during Dia de los Muertos! Mezcaleria La Infiel became like our second home - ha! And not because we had a drinking problem, but because the kindness and welcome shown to us by Armando was so endearing! Even though we were foreigners and new to the area, we were welcomed like old friends. This was the first place I ever tried mezcal and Armando was great about helping us pick just the right type to start out with. Also, the cocktails were amazing (and I loved the creative names)! Daphne is also one of the bartenders there and is just a delight! Everyone there is full of such warmth, and they were so patient with my awful Spanish speaking skills! They spoke English beautifully but I appreciated that they tried to help me learn to speak Spanish better. Please, please if you are in Guanajuato and need a good place to become a "regular," THIS is your place! If you're anything like me, you won't be able to go just once. Armando & Paola also have a little coffee shop and a fabulous bike tour company that they run out of the same place - so be sure to check those out too! We pretty much started and ended our day with these folks - highlight of our time in...

Well, here I am, back in Denver, and sadly, to reality. I am mindblown and desperately planning how to get back to Mexico... to Guanajuato. And will give huge credit to Armando and Paola, owners of Mezcalería La Infiel (The cheater). What an amazing place! What amazing, kind-hearted and fun couple that dared to move to Guanajuato and venture to open their coffee shop (café Carcamanes) and the mezcalería. This was my first time in Guanajuato and I completely fell in love thanks to these folks and their little, cozy, fun nook within the colonial city. And, if this place wasn't enough, the owners and their staff are just great people to be around. You can sit down with them and have a great conversation with coffee and, next thing, you'll be having a craft beer (I ordered Allende craft beer!) followed by a mezcal. Time flies when you have such a great of a time. If you have never been to this small, magical city in the center of Mexico, I strongly recommend you plan to do so. it is a true gem packed with history, breathtaking architecture and amazing, friendly people. Armando, Paola, thank you for your hospitality and fun stories but above all, thank you for creating such a magical place. And remember, you aren't simply in downtown Guanajuato, you are at the...
Read moreStill hard to believe that we lucked out and found this place. Meeting people who will nudge you in the right direction on a vacation can mean the difference between a good trip and an unforgettable trip and that was the case with the owners, servers and bartenders at Mezcaleria la Infiel. They all made sure we not only enjoyed ourselves while we were in the restaurant/bar but also wherever we went in Guanajuato. The owners (husband and wife) along with the staff have created an environment where you can enjoy a good book with your fresh brunch in the open-air courtyard, a cold beer and a snack after exploring the city, or the perfect mezcal nightcap in a speak-easy type bar. My girlfriend planned the weeklong trip in Guanajuato and we found several good restaurants but Mezcaleria la Infiel quickly felt like my local watering hole - great and affordable food, cocktails, local beer selection, and/or a mezcal flight.... goodnight. Also, if you want to be a bit more active ask Armando, the owner, to take you on a mountain...
