Oajillo — Restaurant in Guanajuato

Awful experience… and I never leave bad reviews. Lunch for 2, we ordered toast (tostas).

Service:

We had 2 waiters serving our table and we were the only people in the restaurant. We ordered within about 10-15 minutes (fine), then the two waiters sat and enjoyed a full cooked lunch in front of us, without so much as a glance in our direction to check everything was ok or to let us know why it was taking so long. It took 45 minutes for 4 pieces of toast to arrive. To go a step further, when we left the waiters sarcastically waved us off with words to the effect of “no goodbye for us?”. Clearly they could tell we were not happy with our experience, despite us being very polite throughout.

Food:

Once the food finally emerged, we were further disappointed. Our meals were delivered 7 minutes apart, both cold upon arrival and looked as if they’d been sitting on the counter for a while - perhaps during the lunch our 2 waiters were enjoying themselves. The four pieces of toast had tomato, the driest bacon I’ve ever eaten ( looked like it was cooked ages ago and then salvaged ), spoiled avocado, and a poached egg that had been boiled to within an inch of its life. It was like rubber. The plastic bottle of water was the highlight.

I hardly ever leave reviews but lunch here was so bad that I feel compelled to share.

We were the only people eating on the terrace around 1pm on a Wednesday, and there were two waiters. Not only was the service slow (took 45 minutes to prepare toasts for two people, which weren’t even served at the same time), but when the food finally arrived it was cold and terrible. The hummus had dried onto one of my toasts and the bread was stale. My partners had what looked like 2 day old bacon (it was cold and dry) and an over-cooked “poached egg”.

The worst part though - is that while we waited for our food, the two waiters sat down and enjoyed their lunch at a table right in front of us, and didn’t serve our food until they were finished eating. Terrible etiquette in my opinion, and have never seen this from any restaurant.

The best part of the meal was the bottled water. Would definitely not recommend going here, until serious changes are put in place to rectify...

I ordered a classic margarita. The presentation was spot-on, but it tasted like syrup with no noticeable tequila or lime flavor. However, once I mentioned it to the waiter, he replaced it with another. The second one tasted more like a margarita. 2/5

I ordered the enchiladas mineras. The guajillo chile completely overpowered the dish. Served warm. 3/5

The view of the city is partial and available to maybe three tables at most. 2/5

The decor is urban industrial. They play chill, relaxed music at a medium volume with a steady mid tempo beat. 5/5
