Jaxbar — Restaurant in Isla Mujeres

We ate here twice during our week long stay on the island. This place lost a star based on service alone. The first time we got there around 7:30 PM and we were one of 3 tables. We got our first (and only) round of drinks pretty quickly and ordered food. While waiting for our food a party of 8 arrived. A family that was there when we arrived was finishing up, leaving my son and I, the 2nd table which had 5 female "locals" (people of hispanic origin - there's a reason I mention that) and the party of 8. Once we received our food that was the last of we saw our server. The girls got impeccable service, they never had to ask for refills or anything, I attributed that to the lack of language barrier until the party of 8 arrived and it became clear that my son and I became irrelevant because our meager party of 2 clearly wouldn't be tipping as much....my son and I were never asked if we wanted anything else, we had to go out of our way to get our empty plates cleared and had to eventually ask for our check... at least the food was good. I only ordered a drink at the bar. I wanted to set outside they told me it was wet, I told them I did not mind. They told me I had to come inside so I did. Then I ordered my drink which was the bananas. It took 10 minutes to get the drink even though there was only three of us at the bar. The drink tasted watered down barely taste like banana could not taste the alcohol. The price for the drink was $12 which was a bit steep. When I paid for the drink they charged me just over $15 for the drink. I was going to tip them even though the service was not good they never once asked me if I needed anything else. On top of that when I told them I needed the check there was four of them standing around talking and it still took 5 minutes to cash me out when I told them I had a cab waiting. I was not rude to them by any means I even said I'm not trying to be rude but my cab is waiting I need to cash out. $15 for a water down drink that did not even taste good that's ridiculous. When I told the waiter that he overcharged me and that was unacceptable. I told him I was going to tip him anyhow there was no reason to overcharge me. They all started laughing and said Americano and one of them said dumb Americano. That is the rudest experience I have ever...

This place has okay food. Our server was nice but there is a manager/owner that took our payment and while signing the bill I could see him staring at me like he was pressuring me to tip. I didn’t want to tip on the card slip but I did want to in cash. When he took the card slip he immediately told me “no tip on card?” I gave him a 50 peso bill and just quickly took it from the table as fast as he could and looked really pissed off like it wasnt enough.

First of all he didnt serve us and second we paid for the food and was going to give tip but if you pressure your customers into tipping... no bueno señor.
