So I suppose if you want a quick recap, my words would be āAvoid this and pick something else, save yourself. ā
I will start with the positives, their rooftop patio has a very nice view. With that, unfortunately, the positives end.
Now on to the negatives. In regards to the rooftop patio you need to traverse a labyrinth of low hanging ceilings and beams. I am quite tall, so am used to ducking on occasion. Normally I donāt expect to clip my chin on a cement beam in the roof however. Ducking is excusable, but feeling like Iām doing a concrete obstacle course is a bit much. Anyways, should you manage to make it upstairs without knocking yourself out, you can enjoy a gorgeous vista, and some severely lacking cocktails. I first ordered a glass of wine, and when it arrived I thought it was perhaps the sample size. Nope, that was my glass. I would also like to point out that the servers use the most redundant method to take orders. They have a notepad, with carbon paper to duplicate each order. This would seem possibly useful, until your server spends 2 minutes fighting with paper due to the wind. The 70ās called, they said it didnāt work then, and it still is not working.
Now moving on to dinner. Sadly it just got worse. Our server came to the table clearly quite flustered and immediately asked us if we were ready to order. We hadnāt even opened our menus. After several flustered return trips to or table we were ready to order. I got the special of the house, the Osso Bucco, assuming it would be the best on the menu. My partner had the Pork Chops, apparently requested by Neil Diamond.
My meal reminded me of my motherās cooking. That may sound like a glowing review, but my mother is a terrible cook. I donāt even let her in the kitchen bad. The meat was high quality, but the sauce was the equivalent of dumping beef stock everywhere and calling it a day.
My partner had the pork chops, and the smell alone was enough to set you back. It smelt like a platter of peanut butter cookie dough had been set in front of us. If the smell wasnāt enough, the presentation made it even worse. If i were to tell you how to recreate this plating, all you need to do is walk into your grocery stores frozen section, pick up a hungry man meal, and dump it on your plate. Fantastic.
There were several other occurrences that detracted from our visit, like when I asked for a good wine suggestion and they brought me Finca...superb. On top of that I was worried our server was going to have a coronary at any point due to stress.
So, over all I would say this is a solid choice to keep scrolling past. If you want to experience Chez Elena at home just grab a Swanson hungry man of choice, throw it on a plate, and serve yourself the worst bottle of wine you can find....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell, we went on the "shoulder season". Mother and adult daughter trip. We stayed in room #5, has several stairs and small outdoor balcony. #6 is ground floor with chairs and table patio. #7 has bedroom, kitchen, livingroom, no balcony and is up stairs. As of this post they have 7 available rentals with expansion in the works. Jerome the owner was kind and met his infant and his mother who was visiting. Our reception was with Ozwaldo, who was welcoming, thorough and very kind. Housekeeping came every day and provided drinking water which we drank gone everyday! It was so humid. But don't fret! The AC unit is a workhorse and was greeted with gratitude everytime we opened our door! The grounds and gardens were lovely. I imagine a family trip, girls trip, friend/couple trips, small wedding, reunion, you name it. My daughter and I were the ONLY ones there!!!! We played mermaids at 10pm at night in the saltwater pool. We saw baby frogs, dancing slug on a garden light, possum, soooo many butterflies to count. They have two night time fire features. We had simple homemade banana bread, fresh cut fruit with yogurt or granola options. Because I'm an early riser, 8am coffee service is late for me. However, I definitely consumed 2 cups when the percolator was finished brewing. The room was spotless, the staff was very kind, the price fit my budget, breakfast included, they even had beach chairs, blanket and umbrella for our beach day adventuring which was daily. They do have a communal kitchen , filtered water, locking gated grounds,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were there only to enjoy the rooftop deck and have a drink to view the sunset. Many people are return customers for the rooms over the years. The people we meet there were all very nice and friendly. The price of drinks is a bit expensive but the ambiance was worth it and the drink was well made. There is a 2 for 1 dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays but you should reserve well in advance. A bit pricey as well and we donāt like crowds.
As an edit we are getting negative feedback about the restaurant. About very small portions during the āValentines Specialā. As well as a waiter actually confronting customers who were leaving after paying the bill and being told that the tip was not sufficient !!!
Weāll be back for the rooftop view and a drink but will leave the restaurant out of...
