We usually stick to restaurants near Zona Romántica and Emilio Zapata but I told my spouse that we need to explore further north in the Proyecto Escola area as star ratings there are just as high, less touristy, and prices are low. Bingo! ATMOSPHERE: The little corner eatery is located right across the street from the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe church (the one with the big crown atop). It's small inside, open-air, clean, with beautiful floor tiles that climb up the walls. We were the only visitors amongst locals which I loved. BRUNCH MENU: Chilaquiles, eggs, quesadillas, sopes, tortas & sandwiches. Juices, milkshakes, even beer. BEVERAGE: Strawberry Banana Milkshake Though it was served on the verge of lukewarm temperature, it was good as it wasn't overly sweet. I could tell that only fresh fruits were used and with no added sugar or fattening milk as I wasn't full afterwards. Delish! FOOD: Sopes My spouse's dish. Sopes are constructed similar to a benedict but are worlds different. At the bottom are deep-fried corn cakes which are then topped with beans, cabbage, tomato sauce and cheese. More toppings are available like pork (that my spouse added) and eggs. He liked it but I didn't care for the corn cakes as I don't like the taste of corn tortillas in general. Eggs I opted for scrambled and added chorizo for a whopping 50-cents more. The eggs came chopped up as you're supposed to wrap them in corn tortillas. Not being a fan of the corn variety, I ate just the eggs which were full of salty, meaty goodness from the sausage. Yum. Birria Pork Quesadilla Oh man, this was deee-lish! Imagine tender, shredded pork simmered in a savory red broth, melted cheese, served in a warm corn tortilla. Hell yeah. The immense flavors inside totally masked the nastiness of the corn tortilla and made me moan with each bite. Adding this to my collection "The Best Thing I Ever Ate"! SERVICE: A posted sign stated to sign up on the clipboard inside. Because there were open seats, we were seated immediately. The ladies were very friendly and helpful to us gringos. Food delivery took about 15 minutes. TIPS: Cash only. Breakfast served from 8a-12p, lunch from 9a-2p. OVERALL: Delicious & unbelievably cheap. If you want an authentic Mexican brunch, this is your spot!

You won't find anywhere else that is so authentic, cheap, and delicious. My husband and I spent 70 pesos ($3.78 USD with current exchange rate) each for a multi course meal (comida corrida style lunch). They show you a menu and you decide on your entree, then they bring you whatever their soup of the day is, their fruit water of the day, tortillas, then your entree. The entrees come with greens, rice, and beans as a side. Then, towards the end, they bring you their dessert of the day. I felt spoiled rotten by all the delicious food they kept bringing out. It felt like going to your grandma's house and she just keeps bringing out the goodies! Seriously! Service was friendly and fast but didn't feel rushed. You MUST visit this place if you're in the area. Come on an empty stomach and plan to visit the gorgeous church across the street while you're there. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

This is real Mexican street food served in a restaurant. Cheap and a bit greasy, but you are sitting down with a napkin and cutlery and can wash your hands in a clean bathroom before eating. Be happy. They take your order and then things come flying out of the kitchen in a random order. You came to eat, not to watch a show or to have a fancy napkin placed in your lap. The fan running above your table means you have a pleasant sea breeze so eat quickly! Yes, my plate had a crack in it, but the fried tacos of potatoes and chicken were perfectly done. Yes, they even remembered I did not want crema on top. The pozole soup was perfect-not too rich and not too basic. Plenty of meat. The pineapple aguafresca was not too sweet-sweet tea in the Southern US is sweeter. Prices were amazing, but you may have to stand in line to get in. Worth it. Try the elote drink.

Got to restaurant at 11:30 ordered coffee water and breakfast. Waited over 30 minutes and no food ask waiter where my food was at since several people whom came in after me ordered and received their food. Waiter said I could no longer have breakfast since it was after 12 and lunch was served but I had ordered breakfast at 11:30. Waiter said I could order lunch. I said no I ordered breakfast so I waited another 15 minutes total of 45 minutes and never received my food so I walk out of restaurant and waiter chases me down street with two police officers stating I owe 50 pesos for bottled water and coffee And I said you never served me my breakfast and ignored me and served everyone else and I have to pay for this bad service. Police said I owed the pesos so I paid. Never give this restaurant your business again. I know I will not. I am an American and Mexican citizen and this restaurant deserves no customers if they treat everyone like this which I...
