Will start with the only criticism: made a reservation for 7pm, was emailed asking to change to 8:30pm, called to say we were running five mins late but yet they still didn’t have a table for us. We were seated at a makeshift table in their kitchen for about 45 minutes (we were told 10 mins) and had to ask several times if we could move to the dining area. Note there is a beautiful outdoor table for about 6-8ppl in the back but ours was more in the kitchen staring at some fake grass/moss wall covering area.
Asides from that, everything was delicious here. This is not “fine dining” - think, plastic water bottles left on table and fairly hands off serving style (like not someone refilling water every two minutes) but we like that. You come here for the food and the family run business. The food is divine, even the starter bread was tasty! We shared the French Supreme salad. I had the red snapper (catch of the day) and my husband had pork belly, we each tried a taste of the others and were impressed! The garnish foods could use a little updating (steamed baby carrots seem a bit like they shouldn’t make the team but end up on the plate). The actual proteins and the way they are cooked & seasoned are impeccable. The aesthetic is very “art on your plate” with sauces and different textures placed on very large plates, like a canvas. We shared the chocolate volcano cake for dessert and enjoyed the intensity of the chocolate but in a smaller portion (why do “fancy” restaurants here try to overdo the portions and underwhelm the actual quality?!).
We chatted with our server, Isabella and her uncle who is the owner and hear chef. Clearly they work hard and are seeing the fruits of their success - it is packed every night! Isabella was very kind and also was helpful for us picking out fun non-alc cocktails as non drinkers.
This was the best restaurant meal we had in PV and have already recommended it to friends coming next week! We will book two meals here next...
Read moreMy partner and I wanted a nice night out and, frankly, to step away from the busy restaurants on the beach with club music pumping in the background. When I saw the location I joked “surely this one is quiet”. True enough, D Cortes, hidden away on a hill in a residential neighborhood on the far side of the Zona Romantica, was peaceful. They played acoustic covers of top 40s music, which for a basic gay like myself, I appreciated and admired. It was quiet and peaceful and my God I even heard the birds chirping outside the restaurant.
We ordered the ceviche, the lamb, the pork belly and the duck. We loved it all. The ceviche was balanced but bracing and the duck was perfectly cooked, fatty and fruity. They were all hits. My partner loved the chocolate cake which they served with a crunchy baked element and ice cream. Every dish, every side, was good. Maybe the only afterthought were the side salads; spring mix with an acidic vinaigrette, they were simple and boring.
But the thing I appreciated the most were the drinks. I ordered the mole-mezcal drink and the raicillia-lime drink. After a few nights of drinking exceptionally strong, boozy and flavourless cocktails, D Cortes served me a palate cleanse. These were balanced, spirit-forward but not spirit-only and delicious. I appreciated the nods to the region in the cocktail menu, most of which featured raicillia, mezcal or...
Read moreOMG. Like others, I don't even know where to begin. This was an evening of pure delight and decadence, from start to finish. From the beautiful European salad served on a beautiful plate with the freshest of greens, berries, Camembert encrusted with panko bread crumbs and beautifully browned, candied pecans, and a light, delicious vinaigrette. Then the cream of lobster soup with a half of a lobster in the shell! The cream itself was fluffy and lighter than air, and the seasoning and lobster heavenly. And then there was the dessert. There were three of us and so the staff presented the three desserts on a large board adorned with dabs of delicious chocolate and cream and so beautifully presented. A creme brulee, a chocolate volcano cake with homemade ice cream and a banana cream cake, also with homemade ice cream.
The Cortes family are all wonderful and lovely and you are truly dining in their home as honored guests. The cocktails were perfectly made, the Couvissier served in the perfect glass. There was no detail that was too small for their attention. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your wonderful restaurant and hospitality beyond compare.
As you might guess, I would recommend this restaurant if you want a lovely,...
