This is one of my top favorite spots/bars for going out in Puerto Vallarta! While technically a gay bar, there are plenty straight people/couples visiting there as well regularly, so there is a good balance and the ambiance is absolutely great for a mixed audience. The staff and management is also friendly and doing all they can to make it work for the guests. While you can have (not excessively priced) drinks, with some free popcorn and/or choose something to eat from their menu (which offers a variety of simple foods/snacks, nothing extraordinary but decent enough as their focus is not food), you can enjoy their top notch and great variety of entertainment, singers and artists as they host many of the top talent of Vallarta. Check their weekly schedule on Facebook to find out which entertainment night is the best for your personal taste. Currently they also have salsa dancing on Saturday Night and on Sunday Night there is a promotion of 50% off of food (and the food is already not that expensive to begin with). Personally, if I wanna have some drinks (with or without food) in a bar, I don't see any good reason to go any other place than Catrina. From their food menu, my favorites are the fried chicken wings (I prefer their wings over almost any other place in Vallarta) and the chicken nuggets are also really good. Their only dessert is also a true delight: hot brownie with vanilla ice cream and Baileys. Most of the time they don't charge cover (only occasionally they do), and thus providing free entertainment; artists get paid through tips only. The place also has an amazing decorative interior, mostly Catrina-style. Whenever I end up in another bar for whatever reason, I always wish I was in Catrina instead, as I would have much more fun, entertainment and value for money there! Can't recommend this place enough!
(I read some negative reviews here about problems with the bills; let me say this about that: I have been in Catrina at least 100 times and have rarely had any issues with my bill, and in the very, very few occasions that there was a mistake on the bill, which can always happen, it got instantly corrected by staff. I have never felt worried about my bill on any occasion there and have a lot of confidence in the honesty of staff and management. Just sharing my personal experience about...
Read moreWell, first and LAST time I will stop in here.
Got an invite from friends to watch the show this evening, September 15, 2021. The show was fun and some great talent.
When it was time to pay the bill, the young male waiter did the old switcheroo trick on us.
I put a 500 peso bill (reddish in color) in small tin cup to pay a 185 peso bill. He came back 2 minutes later and pulled a 100 peso (also reddish in color under poor lighting) bill from the cup. He said sir, you must have made a mistake. I smiled and knew I got had. I said "I didn't make a mistake, I double check my bills and my wife double checks too" (we know this trick).
I didn't argue, but I will NEVER go back and will NOT recommend a business like that to anyone.
When my wife and I got back to our room, I did another double check, just to give them the benefit of the doubt. We counted the amount of 500 peso bills I had in my wallet (I started with 4) and confirmed again that we were actually shorted.
Other disclosures: We had 1 round of drinks each. We were not "drunk".
I can only ponder how many times this same trick may be happening to customers who actually let loose a bit and then get taken advantage of after a few or several drinks?
The waiter is described as: Young Mexican Male Adult, approximately 23-25 years old, was wearing a tiny black sombrero hat tilted to the right side. (September 15, 2021).
I will be filing a sworn affidavit to PROFECO to attempt to prevent this type of fraud from...
Read moreI absolutely love La Catrina Cantina! It feels as much like a community center as it does a bar. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with vibrant decor that reflects the lively spirit of the place. There’s always something interesting happening for adults of all ages and interests. From dancing and Spanish courses to LRC, Bingo, music, and burlesque, the list goes on. It’s a place where I can go alone, sit at the bar, and chat with the friendly staff. They are always accommodating, finding you a place, inviting you to participate, or respecting your wish to simply observe. The lighting is perfect, creating a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Everything is perfect, with attention paid to every detail, even down to the fixtures in the bathrooms. If you’re looking for a delicious drink in a friendly environment, hoping to make friends, or just want to relax alone and participate in the community, this is the place...
